ARETHA FRANKLIN & KING CURTIS - Live At Fillmore West: Don't Fight The Feeling (2005)
Highlights from Aretha Franklin's three-night season at San Francisco's Fillmore West in March 1971 were originally released as the Live at Fillmore West album, but this four-disc jernaut presents all three performances in their entirety, including the opening sets from saxophonist King Curtis.
This is Aretha in her belting, testifying prime, steam-rollering through epic versions of trademark tunes like Dr Feelgood and Respect. Since the aim of playing at the hippy haven of the Fillmore was to infiltrate the white rock market, she also lobbed in covers of Bridge Over Troubled Water, Eleanor Rigby and Stephen Stills' Love the One You're With. Its 42 previously unreleased tracks make this limited-edition collection a nirvana for soul enthusiasts, but less dedicated listeners may be put off by the fact that a sizeable percentage of the tracks appear three times.
Numbered limited edition of 5 000 copies!
