ALBERT CASTIGLIA - Living the Dream (2012)

Fans of traditional (yet completely contemporary) blues take note — Albert Castiglia has released an album that will have you singing anything but the blues. The album, titled Living the Dream, is a dream collection of solid blues tunes, performed with a relaxed, smoldering intensity by the electric bluesman. Living the Dream, Castiglia’s fifth solo album, opens with three momentum building, rockin’ tracks. The interplay between guitar and organ on the third song,“Freddie’s Boogie,” is as good as it gets. Things change tempo on the fourth song, “Directly From My Heart To You” (my favorite cut on the album). From this point on, Castiglia proves there’s little he cannot do. Song after song, we are treated to variations on blues styles that are examples of the diversity of sounds within the blues genre. There are acoustic songs, swampy delta blues songs and red-hot Chicago blues numbers.

Albert Castiglia is supported on the album by Bob Amsel (drums) and A.J. Kelly (bass), with guest appearances by John Ginty (keyboard), Sandy Mack (blues harp), Johnny Rizzo (acoustic slide) and Emedin Rivera (percussion).
