MORIARTY

Moriarty is made up of five artists of French, American, and Swiss origin. The members were mainly born in France to American parents. The group was named Moriarty in reference to Dean Moriarty, the hero of On the Road by Jack Kerouac. Initially, the group consisted of eight members: singer Charlene Dupuy, drummer Médéric de Vanssay, and saxophonist Davide Woods have since left the group. Rosemary Standley joined in 1999. Moriarty went from performing traditional blues to rock'n'roll. Successive departures from the group reduced them to five members (Rosemary, Arthur, Thomas, Charles and Stephan), and forced them to play acoustically. This radical change opened up new musical territories for the band, giving them greater freedom in sound experimentation, and allowing them straightforward, stripped-down performances in places such as a prison in Normandy, a mental institution in central France, a ruined castle in Tuscany, and the streets of Paris and Dublin

2007 - Gee Whiz But This Is A Lonesome Town [2009, Limited Edition]
Co-produced by theater directors Jerome Deschamps and Macha Makeieff, Gee Whiz But This Is a Lonesome Town is the first album from French-American collective Moriarty. Named after the central character in Jack Kerouac's On the Road, Moriarty's their 2007 LP, released 12 years after they originally formed, combines traditional rock & roll, Irish folk, and country-blues with unorthodox sounds from the likes of typewriters, hotel bells, and washboards. Influenced by Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan, and Johnny Cash, the inventive debut includes the single "Jimmy" and "Private Lily." "It all happened on a friday. It was a clear crystal day, may day, fire day. We were there and then she came just like a serendipity. She was a Parisian Diva and we were her three agitated dreamers. At four o' clock in the morning we all laid on our backs on our bed and we started singing a song for YOU to sing when we're gone." - cduniverse.com

2011 - The Missing Room
Perhaps inspired by the Jack Kerouac novel, On the Road, they took their name from, French-American five-piece Moriarty tested the 13 songs on their second studio album, The Missing Room, while touring the world before committing them to record, resulting in a much more expansive and electric-based sound than their acoustic-heavy debut, Gee Whiz But This Is a Lonesome Town. Produced by drummer Vincent Talpaert, the first release through their own Air Rytmo label continues to mirror their bohemian and nomadic lifestyle, blending Americana with Irish country-blues and French folk-pop, and includes the lead single, "Isabella." - allmusic.com
