VARIOUS ARTISTS - Jeffology: A Jeff Beck Tribute (1996)

"Jeffology: A Jeff Beck Tribute" is an odd concept for a tribute album. Throughout his career, Jeff Beck has been celebrated for his highly individual, trailblazing playing. Beck has never been a songwriter; he has always been an interpreter. Consequently, throughout Jeffology you have a fleet of first-rate, flamboyant hard rock/metal guitarists interpreting Beck's interpretations. Occasionally, there is a quote from the original version, but most of the musicians just turn it up to 10 and let 'em rip. That can be thrilling for guitar fanatics, but for average listeners, Jeffology swiftly becomes a bore. Many of the performances miss an important element of Beck's records - his musicality. He made guitar instrumentals compelling to people who had never picked up a guitar in their life.

Utopia was an American progressive rock band led by Todd Rundgren that toured and recorded from 1973 to 1987. Since the group's first two albums were marginally listenable and RA flirted with outright parody, it comes as a shock to hear Utopia be outright accessible and listenable, two qualities virtually foreign to their previous work. The quartet has been revamped, redesigned as a mainstream arena rock band. And that means that the chores are spread a little more evenly, meaning that not only does everyone get to write, everyone gets to sing, occasionally on songs Todd Rundgren wrote. Despite his efforts to democratize the group, Utopia still feels very much like Rundgren's baby, mainly because the only songs that really work are ones that he writes and sings. And since Utopia is now merely a hard rock band, Rundgren reserves his more ambitious ideas and complex songs for his solo records. The end result of all this is that Oops! Wrong Planet is more consistent than earlier Utopia records, but is not as sporadically brilliant or rewarding as Rundgren's solo albums. Even the bad moments, such as the very silly "Gangrene," aren't particularly unlistenable, yet there are simply too many average, undistinguished songs for the record to actually soar. Nevertheless, Rundgren turns in some fine moments - "Love in Action" is a terrific hard rocker, as is "Trapped," and "Love Is the Answer" is an ideal stadium anthem - that make the record worthwhile for the cult, even if it will sound like little more than a period piece to most listeners. - allmusic.com HERE

LINDA RONSTADT - Greatest Hits 1 & 2 (1976/80)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.usImage Hosted by ImageShack.us

"Greatest Hits" (1976) *
Linda Ronstadt's appeal crossed so many genre lines it's impossible to categorize her as anything other than a gifted vocalist. She enjoyed success on country and rock charts alike with a voice that capably handled the requirements of both styles. There was a commanding roughness to her you-did-me-wrong classic, "You're No Good," that mixed both soul and R&B stylings into her vocals. In a similar vein, she handled the Motown standard, "Heat Wave," like a pro, this time giving it the slightest hint of a country twang. She even rose to the occasion of covering Buddy Holly's "That'll Be the Day." Rondstadt had some of her best moments with material that had a more emotional element, regardless of genre. "Love Is a Rose" and "Tracks of My Tears" are good examples of the disparate styles she could navigate with equal aplomb. Greatest Hits doesn't chronicle Rondstadt's hits past the mid-1970s, but is still worth owning, not only for the songs themselves, but as a point of reference in her career. - amazon.com

"Greatest Hits Vol.2" (1980) *
The latter part of the '70s found Ronstadt roughing up her image a bit, covering songs by the Rolling Stones and Warren Zevon and eventually taking inspiration from the burgeoning punk and new-wave scenes. All of this was a long way away from the laid-back country-rock sound that established her as one of the top female artists of the day. On the material collected here, Ronstadt remains as strong a singles artist as ever. Greatest Hits, Vol. 2 contains winners such as "It's So Easy," "Blue Bayou," and the Chuck Berry romp "Living in the U.S.A.," as well as edgier material such as the Stones' "Tumbling Dice" and Zevon's "Poor Poor Pitiful Me." - amazon.com

High energy guitar-driven electric blues/rock played with passion, heart, soul and meaning. Dan is proving to be an influencial blues/rock guitarist throughout Europe and Australia. Dan Granero recorded "Can't Stand To Lose" on the 31st January 2009, at "The Oakglen Treehouse" on the Central Coast of New South Wales - Australia with legendary producer/engineer, Dave Scotland. This album intentionally captures the raw energy of the live sessions featuring two of Dan's dearest friends and highly respected musicians; Lawrence Gambale on bass and Michael Williams on drums with minimal production and no overdubs.

As Dan says: “It’s a very honest record, faults and all, that to me builds a strong foundation. I’ve recorded things in the past with lots and lots of production that I think were a bit over the top for me. The layers of vocals and keyboards on those recordings didn't really showcase me as the guitar player that I am, or accurately show what my rockin’ three-piece band does when we play live.”

Live at the Roxy is a two-disc live album by Bob Marley & The Wailers, released in 2003. The album contains a complete concert, recorded on May 26, 1976 at The Roxy in West Hollywood California, during the Rastaman Vibration tour. This concert was originally broadcast live on the KMET radio station in Los Angeles. Because of the radio simulcast, this concert became widely bootlegged until this official release came out in 2003.

A legendary live performance from Bob Marley and the Wailin' Wailers. Great sound quality, small club atmosphere, double CD - if you're looking for Bob Marley, this is a much better choice than the many hits albums you'll find floating around.

SANTANA - Lotus (1974)

In the 70s, concert tours by rock groups to the 'Land of the Rising Sun' were full of eastern promise. While the Japanese could hardly wait to pounce on concert tickets by western rock groups, those in the occident could hardly wait to get their hands on the live recordings 'made in Japan'. Usually such products were readily available and fans happily carried off legendary albums by Deep Purple, Cheap Trick or the Scorpions. But this was not so in the case of Santana's "Lotus". European and American fans could only purchase the triple LP as an import product at an astronomical price; in 1991 Columbia attempted to bring out a reasonably priced replacement in the form of a double CD.

Features:

Carlos Santana (el-g, perc, voc, keyb); Tom Coster (org, perc, keyb, el-p, voc); Doug Rauch (b, g); Michael Shrieve (dr); José Chepitó Areas (perc, cga, timbales, voc); Armando Peraza (perc, bgo, cga, voc);

SILJE NERGAARD:kiss

- Darkness Out Of Blue (2007)
- A Thousand True Stories (2009)

Silje Nergaard is a Norwegian pop and jazz vocalist based in Oslo. While her music early in her career (e.g. Si det, si det from 1985) may have had a distinct pop feel, she has since moved on, and virtually all of her later releases consist of jazz-oriented tunes. Nergaard’s musical journey began early. At age 16, she stepped on stage joining a jam session at Moldejazz, Norway’s international jazz festival, with a band comprising ex-Jaco Pastorious musicians. The country’s jazz journalists applauded the young talent. Since that day, she has steadily developed as a composer and become popular for her unique voice and talent for songwriting. Since her 1990 inaugural jazz album, Tell Me Where You’re Going, produced by jazz guitar maestro Pat Metheny, Nergaard has become one among very few Norwegian artists to have had commercial releases in major music markets around the globe - including Brazil, Germany, the U.S., and the United Kingdom - and doing so with great success. Her later albums, Port of Call (2000), At First Light (2001), and Nightwatch (2003), have all proved resounding commercial successes and received rapturous critical praise. With Nightwatch she also made history: no other jazz artist before her had shot straight into the Norwegian sales charts twice to reach #1 within the first week of release. In 2004 she received a Norwegian music award for Musician of the Year.

THE DEREK TRUCKS BAND - The Derek Trucks Band (1997)

Derek Trucks (born June 8, 1979) is a Grammy Award-nominated American guitarist. He first attracted the attention of the music industry as a nine-year old child prodigy on the guitar, first playing with his uncle, drummer Butch Trucks, and by age 12 was sitting in with several high profile artists, such as Buddy Guy, touring with The Allman Brothers Band for a decade, before finally becoming an official band member in 1999. That same year, he met blues singer Susan Tedeschi, and the two married in 2001, beginning a family. He continues to play with both The Allman Brothers Band and as bandleader of the The Derek Trucks Band, which he founded at age 15. In recent years, Trucks and Tedeschi have merged their respective bands on occasion, billed as the "Soul Stew Revival". Trucks is known best for his specialty as a slide guitarist, his stoic focus while performing on stage, his reverence for the legacy of roots and blues musicians whose influence can be felt in Trucks' music, as well as his familiarity and integration of a wide variety of musical genres. He has performed and collaborated with a number of famous bands and musicians of note, guesting with other artists on tour, in festivals, and recording sessions.

JONNY LANG - Turn Around (2006)

Jonny Lang is a Grammy Award-winning American blues, gospel, and rock singer, song writer and recording artist. Lang's music is notable both for his unusual voice, which has been compared to that of a 40 year old blues veteran, and for his guitar solos. His solo patterns have especially been noted for the constant use of wide vibratos.

"Turn Around" is a wholly appropriate title for Jonny Lang's 2006 album, since it marks a significant change in direction as the young blues singer/guitarist's first full-fledged Christian outing. Having embraced spirituality after his hard-living days as a child prodigy performer, the North Dakota-raised Lang leans strongly toward soul and gospel on this record, as evidenced on the passionate "Anything's Possible," a lightly funky tune that finds his searing six-string lines matching his dynamic and expressive vocals. Along with writing assistance from CCM luminary Steven Curtis Chapman ("My Love Remains"), "Turn Around" also features contributions by singer Michael McDonald, mandolin player Sam Bush, and violinist Sara Watkins (Nickel Creek), making the album a faith-based coming-out party for Lang. JAMES BROWN - Messing With The Blues (1990)

Although he is most famous for his innovations in soul and funk music, James Brown never lost sight of his blues and R&B roots. His albums often placed surprisingly rootsy covers of old chestnuts alongside his groundbreaking polyrhythmic workouts. This double CD compiles 30 of the bluesiest items from his vast recorded legacy. Cut between 1957 and 1985, most of the tracks actually date from the '60s; many of these, in turn, were laid down in the early part of the decade, when J.B. was gradually evolving from his more conventional beginnings. The artists whose songs are covered here read like a who's who of R&B pioneers: Louis Jordan, Roy Brown, Memphis Slim, Ivory Joe Hunter, Fats Domino, Chuck Willis, Little Willie John, Billy Ward, Guitar Slim, and Bobby Bland. It's quite an instructive insight into Brown's not-always-visible roots. It would be fair to say that this does not rank among his most exciting material, finding him in a smoother and more conventional style than his most innovative work. It is nonetheless always entertaining and accomplished, with Brown's love for this material shining through strongly in his committed interpretations. Especially intriguing are an 11-minute cover of Chuck Willis' "Don't Deceive Me" and a two-part, blues-based rap vamp from the early '70s, "Like It Is, Like It Was (The Blues)." The disc includes several unreleased cuts, alternate takes, and unedited versions of previously released songs. - All Music Guide

TITANIC - Ashes and Diamonds (2009)

The group was made up of Kenny Aas, Kjell Asperud, John Lorck, Janny Lřseth and Roy Robinson (lead singer). They formed in 1969, and released several successful albums and singles before disbanding in 1979. The main composer was the group founder Janny Loseth, with Roy Robinson supplying the primarily English language based lyrics. In October 1971 Titanic reached Number 5 in the UK Singles Chart, with their instrumental track, "Sultana".[1] It was performed in the style of the then popular band, Santana. The tune also appeared on their Titanic's album Sea Wolf. In late 1970s, Janny Loseth went solo and first released several singles, including "Take Me Down" (bw. "Nobody's Man"), and "I Wished I Was a Poet" (bw. "Dancing Girl"), which featured his powerful and operatic vocal, and then became the lead singer for a French electronic band called Space. In late 1990s, after leaving Space, Janny Loseth recruited back Roy Robinson, and the duo released one album, Lower the Atlantic. This Titanic reunion was short lived. In 2006, Janny Loseth reformed Titanic with three additional members: Mick Walker, Phil Wilton, and Didier Blum. He later opted to take Roy Robinson back on board and this quintet released the new single that same year, called "I'm the Law", which is available on DVD.

Their latest reunion album "Ashes and Diamonds" was released on February 20, 2009 in Europe. FlameUpload

Dylan is the greatest poet songwriter of the modern era. In his 68th year (on his 33rd studio album) we continue to pay revenant attention, even though he wheezes and croaks, offers up Tin Pan Alley rhymes and oft-used melodies. Together Through Life is a beautifully played collection of antique blues pop. A warm, wheezy accordion (played by David Hidalgo of Los Lobos) lends a borderline Tex Mex flavour. The rocking Shake, Shake Mama has the gaudy spirit of some great forgotten 45 Dylan might pull out on his Theme Time Radio Hour.

At least half of the songs are wry, even slightly comic tales of ordinary American lives of desire, heartbreak and remorse from an artfully conjured cast of lustful suitors (Jolene), henpecked husbands (My Wife's Home Town) and repentant drunks (If You Ever Go To Houston). They are held in place by richer and more mysterious material, swampy blues rock opener Beyond Here Lies Nothing, elegantly longing Forgetful Heart (worthy of Oh Mercy), and the cheerfully apocalyptic album closer, It's All Good. Dylan catalogues the hardships facing a broken land and concludes each verse with the title phrase, a banal colloquialism that expresses so much about American optimism. It all adds up to a lively portrait of an idea of America, heroically strling for dignity in an uncaring world. It is a place Dylan himself casts doubt on with the disturbing conclusion to Forgetful Heart, an image of a "door that's closed forevermore / If indeed there ever was a door''. - telegraph.co.uk

11. Endless Boogie, Parts 27 And 28

The black blues legends playing with the white up-and-comers. A dark, slow-moving collection of grooves in Hooker's one-of-a-kind style. The highlight is definitely his anti-drug sermon in the middle of "Kick Hit 4 Hit Kix U (Blues For Jimi & Janis)," but the whole thing slinks around being cool the way any good John Lee Hooker music does. A host of rock musicians make special guest appearances. This album falls distinctly into the former class John Lee Hooker, a 54-year-old blues legend in his own right, is sympathetically accompanied by the likes of Jesse Davis, Carl Radle, Steve Miller, Gino Scaggs and Mark Naftalin and the end product is a double-album set of unadulterated Hooker portraits in blues.

Alice is an album by Tom Waits, released in 2002 on Epitaph Records (under the Anti sub-label). The album contains the majority of songs written for the play Alice, based on the forbidden love between Lewis Carroll and Alice Liddell, for whom he wrote the story Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. The adaptation was directed by Robert Wilson, whom Waits had previously worked with on the play The Black Rider, and originally set up at the Thalia Theatre in Hamburg in 1992. The play has since been done on various theatres around the world. The songs had been unofficially released on a bootleg called The Alice Demos many years before this official release. The source of the bootleg release is supposed to be from studio recordings made for the cast of the play, and was taken when Waits' car was broken into in late 1992 (as confirmed by Waits in interviews). Several different versions of the bootleg album were in circulation before the release of the official version. This album was co-released with another Waits album, Blood Money, containing songs from a play adapted by Robert Wilson from Georg Büchner's Woyzeck.

In 2002 this album was ranked #2 in Metacritic's Top 30 albums of the year.

1996 release on CBH/ SPV, 82 minutes of southern rock anthems recorded live on their 1995 U.S. tour. The band sounds pretty uninspired here. But Skynyrd's worst is better than most band's best, so this is a worthwhile purchase for Skynyrd fans. Of particular note is an electric version of "Devil In The Bottle", which is almost a completely different song when compared to the acoustic version on Endangered Species. The rarely performed "Down South Jukin'" and "Double Trouble" shine here as well, with an extra solo at the end of the latter. "T For Texas" is another surprise, but it pales in comparison with the version on "One More From The Road". The band did sound pretty stale here, though that was remedied a year or so later with the addition of Ricky Medlocke and Hughie Thommason (check out Lyve From Steeltown for the definitive post-plane crash live album). - amazon.com

V.A. - Mar Y Sol (1972)

After Monterey Pop, Woodstock, the Atlanta Pop Festival, and Isle of Wight, the Mar Y Sol: First International Puerto Rico Pop Festival was more than anti-climactic, and the resulting double-record set runs almost like a supplement to the similar Medicine Ball Caravan film soundtrack. The Allman Brothers Band, Emerson, Lake & Palmer, and B.B.King may have been legitimate headliners, but Osibisa were hardly a household name, and "Bedroom Mazurka" by Cactus on this LP makes one wonder why half that band would ever want to leave Vanilla Fudge to create a watered down Black Oak Arkansas. A five-minute-plus version of "Looking for a Love" by J. Geils Band rips the album wide open; it's a terrific performance by a terrific up and coming band that had barely dented the Top 40 with the tune three months before this concert, held on April 1, 2, and 3, 1972..... - All Music Guide

JOHN SCOFIELD - Piety Street (2009)

04. His Eye Is On The Sparrow
05. Something’s Got A Hold On Me

12. The Angel Of Death
13. I’ll Fly Away

Modern jazz guitarist John Scofield has played alongside greats of the genre including Miles Davis, Charles Mingus, and Billy Cobham, bending his strings to a diverse range of styles with flexibility and technical flair. On Piety Street, however, Scofield turns his attention to a parallel 20th Century American popular music form – the blues.

This ain't the blues as played by blind pan-handlers or railroad hoppers, though: rather, these 13 tracks see a suite of gospel standards, traditionals and Scofield originals played in a clean, full-band jazz style featuring the personnel of pianist Jon Cleary, former Meters bassist George Porter Jr, drummer Ricky Fataar, vocalist John Boutté and Shannon Powell on percussion. It's a tight but tasteful set, one reverential to the religious spirit of the originals, if not always reverential to the form: the God-fearing message of Thomas A Dorsey's Never Turn Back gets a funky itch in its step, all scratchy guitar and trilling organ, while old folk standard Motherless Child shifts intuitively from jazzy swing into a reggae step in its closing minutes. - bbc.co.uk

JOE LOUIS WALKER - Great Guitars (1997)thumbupthumbupthumbup

Great Guitars is a music album released by blues guitarist Joe Louis Walker in 1997. Many of the songs on the album are duets with other artists. The album received mostly favourable reviews upon its release.

01. Low Down Dirty Blues
02. First Degree
03. Mile-Hi Club
04. Fix Our Love
05. Every Girl I See
06. Cold and Evil Night
07. Hop on It
08. Nighttime
09. Sugar
10. In God's Hands
11. High Blood Pressure

By his late 40s, guitarist Joe Louis Walker was too young to be a living legend, too old to be a hot-shot blues prodigy, and too tasteful to squander his music on attention-grabbing gimmicks. Walker tried to bust out of this box by devoting his 1997 album, Great Guitars, to collaborations with his blues guitar heroes. This, too, could have turned into a backfiring gimmick, but Walker maintains firm control of the recording sessions by writing or cowriting 10 of the 11 songs, by co-producing them all, and by making sure his big, gospel-trained tenor dominates every vocal. In other words, the songs are not adjusted for the sake of the guests; the guests are asked to adjust for the sake of the songs. Bonnie Raitt echoes Walker's tasty slide guitar from the intro to "Low Down Dirty Blues;" Ike Turner plays herky-jerky funk phrases against Walker's fluid lead on "First Degree;" Taj Mahal and Walker tackle the original blues hymn, "In God's Hands," as an acoustic duo. On Buddy Guy's old hit, "Every Girl I See," Guy himself updates his guitar solo but allows Walker to handle the lead vocal; Matt Murphy, who cowrote that song with Willie Dixon, trades guitar solos with Walker on "Nighttime." Steve Cropper from Booker T and the MG's co-produced 10 of the 11 tracks and joins Walker, Scotty Moore, Little Charlie Baty, and Gatemouth Brown for a parade of guitar solos on "Mile-Hi Club." In this case, the title Great Guitars is no hyperbole. - amazon.com

ROLLING STONES - No Security (1998)

Despite the fact that the tattooed couple on the cover of "No Security" are far more threatening than the Rolling Stones sounded in the late '90s, the World's Greatest Rock And Roll Band still manage to put together an interesting clutch of live performances here, with a couple of surprises thrown in for good measure. On their seventh live album, the Stones avoid the standard greatest hits package expected of most bands of their stature and instead go with an interesting mix of newer songs and old favorites. So you get songs off of 1997's "Bidges To Babylon" ("Flip The Switch," "Out Of Control") and 1994's "Voodoo Lounge" ("You Got Me Rocking") as well as 1965's "Out Of Our Heads" ("The Last Time"). The Stones show off their longevity by having special guests who represent different generations. Thus, you have Taj Mahal playing with them on his "Corinna" 30 years after his appearance in The Rolling Stones Rock'N'Roll Circus and Dave Matthews joining in on "Memory Motel." The final old-to-new transition comes when young lion Joshua Redman reprises the sax break featured in "Waiting on A Friend" that jazz colossus Sonny Rollins played on the original version. - cduniverse.com

JOHN PRINE - Aimless Love (1984)

01. Be My Friend Tonight
02. Aimless Love
03. Me, Myself and I
04. The Oldest Baby in the World
05. Slow Boat to China
06. The Bottomless Lake
07. Maureen, Maureen
08. Somewhere Someone's Falling in Love
09. People Puttin' People Down
10. Unwed Fathers
11. Only Love

After eight albums on two major labels, John Prine has gone the route of many a fine though commercially marginal singer/songwriter and released an album on his own independent label. It's a treat. Though perhaps it lacks the instant standards like "Hello in There" and "Sam Stone," which made Prine's debut album so startling, Aimless Love is a friendly, human-sized collection of typically low-tech country-folk tunes. Prine's lazy drawl on "Be My Friend Tonight" and "Me, Myself and I" could make you nostalgic for midperiod Dylan (circa The Basement Tapes), and many of the songs recall the whimsical variations of friends and peers like Kris Kristofferson and the late Steve Goodman, who produced one track here. The best songs, though, have that gritty, halfway-bitter perspective on the world that is particular to John Prine. "Unwed Fathers" offers a heart-ting snapshot of a runaway teenager whispering to her newborn, "Your daddy never/Meant to hurt you ever/He just don't live here/But you got his eyes." And "Maureen, Maureen," my favorite, shows a man who's down on himself trying desperately to scare off a woman who loves him. Of course, the album also features a couple of pretty ballads, "Somewhere Someone's Falling in Love" and "Only Love," which give the brighter side of life its due while proving that John Prine, the elegant pop songwriter, is still in top form. - rollingstone.com FlameUpload

KIM WILSON - Smokin' Joint (2001)

"Smokin' Joint" was nominated for the 2002 Grammy Award for Best Traditional Blues Album.

03. Oh Baby
04. Early In The Morning

08. Telephone Blues
09. High & Lonesome
10. I Can Tell
11. Tomorrow Night
12. The Lighthouse Is Gone

Best known for fronting Texas legends The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Kim Wilson spent much of the '90s balancing his time between his old group and kick-starting his solo career. In parlaying the experience of playing an average of over 200 dates annually, Wilson's first live solo release "Smokin' Joint" finds him serving up club dates recorded in Phoenix and Hermosa Beach, California in 1999 and 2000. With the Hollywood Fats rhythm section of bassist Larry Taylor and drummer Richard Innes anchoring the proceedings on both gigs, Wilson cuts loose on a pair of covers-heavy sets that find him dabbling in a variety of blues styles. Wilson breaths new life into nets like a swinging reading of Smiley Lewis' "Ain't Gonna Do It," a smooth walk through B.B. King's "I Stay In The Mood," and a soul shuffle version of Bo Diddley's "I Can Tell." Although some numbers tend to run a bit long in the seven-to-nine-minute range, Wilson's effortless harp playing nullifies any thoughts of clock-watching on Little Walter's ching "Oh Baby" or Wilson's own infectious jump-blues workout "Got To Let You Go.

"Tell `Em What Your Name Is!", the debut album from Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears is set for release by Lost Highway on March 17. Formed in Austin, TX, Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears is an eight-piece, garage-soul ensemble featuring groove-laden guitars, penetrating brass and a fiery frontman who exudes power and attitude. Experiencing the raw energy of Black Joe's performances, accompanied by The Honeybears' masterful backing is the equivalent of a kick to the stomach. Their gut-shot style, felt in such songs as "Gunpowder", "Master Sold My Baby" and "I'm Broke", draws directly from their classic soul, R&B and blues influences. Inspiration from artists such as Otis Redding and The Bar-Kays, James Brown and Lightning Hopkins are clearly present in their songs and live shows, but Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears inject a full-tilt, unabashedly brash element to this old-school style. - amazon.com FlameUpload

08. Look At You Look At Me

As with so many artists, Dave Mason's first solo album is probably his best. Perhaps it's because he had a backlog of songs that Traffic had never recorded, but 1970's “Alone Together” is chock full of great songs. On the other hand, it's easy to see why Mason left Traffic even before that group's (temporary) breakup in 1969; the soft rock sound of “Alone Together” is hard to place in the context of the jazz-pop experiments Traffic would explore when they reunited in 1971. The eight lengthy songs take time to unfold, and the peerless musicianship, with Mason's lyrical guitar and Leon Russell's inimitable boogie-soul piano in the center, treads the line between chops and soul with nary a misstep. The classic single "Only You Know and I Know" is the clear highlight, but every song is a winner. - CDUniverse FlameUpload

This lineup played the Los Angeles rock scene for a year with contemporaries such as Junkyard, The Four Horsemen, The Sea Hags and countless others. Warner Brothers signed the band in 1989 and they released their self-titled debut in 1990 with Liam Jason (Warrior) on drums. Their second album, 1992's Get Used to It, was recorded in Memphis with producer Terry Manning (Led Zeppelin, ZZ Top, George Thorogood). The album contained "Ride With Yourself" which was featured in the hit movie Wayne's World. In 1993, drummer Simon Wright (AC/DC, Dio) joined the band and appeared on the 1994 album PAIN. The band continued extensive touring, but by 1995 the rigors of the road had burnt the band out and they went on what turned out to be an extended hiatus. FlameUpload

Blackfoot is a Southern rock band from Jacksonville, Florida. They were formed in 1972 and were contemporaries of Lynyrd Skynyrd, and tried for years to make it as a Southern rock band, although they were more popular as a hard rock outfit. They had a number of hit albums in the 1970s and early 1980s (including Strikes (1979), Tomcattin' (1980), and Marauder (1981)) before their popularity started to wane. They had broken up by 1984, though not before former Uriah Heep keyboardist/songwriter Ken Hensley had joined the group during their last couple of years together. Frontman Rickey Medlocke revived the name in 1987 with a new backing group, and released two additional albums (Medicine Man and After The Reign).

Fabulous Thunderbirds alumnus Kim Wilson brings his vocal and harp skills to a half-dozen tracks, including the B.B. King classic, "Rock Me Baby," and trades harp licks with Chicago blues veteran James Cotton on "One More Mile," "No More" and "Mighty Fine Boogie." Levon Helm, drummer and co-founder of the Band, keeps it all together and in the pocket with tight drumming on all thirteen tracks. Veteran journalist Ted Drozdowski, who was on hand when tape was rolling at Bearsville Studios in Woodstock, NY, in November 2000, called the sessions "a full-on collaboration between Ronnie and people he has known and loved for years." The Flying Burrito Brothers was an early country rock band, best known for its influential debut album, 1969's The Gilded Palace of Sin. Although the group is most often mentioned in connection with country rock legends Gram Parsons and Chris Hillman, the group underwent many personnel changes. The history of the Flying Burrito Brothers is long and checkered. The definitive line-up began with two ex-Byrds, Gram Parsons and Chris Hillman, and soon added a third, Michael Clarke. Both Gene Clark and David Crosby guested on recordings by the Burritos. Gene Parsons and Skip Battin would play with subsequent incarnations of the group. Indeed, the band went through a ridiculous number of iterations over the years, many of which had only the most tenuous of connections to the definitive Parsons-Hillman line-up. FlameUpload

BAND:
Gram Parsons, Chris Hillman, Sneaky Pete Kleinow, Michael Clarke and Chris Ethridge, joined by Clarence White. Plus Jimmy Morris.

IAN MOORE - Ian Moore (1993) thumbupthumbupthumbup

Ian Moore is a guitarist and singer-songwriter from Austin, Texas. He studied fiddle as a child, but switched to guitar when wrist problems interfered. His music contains elements of folk, rock and roll, world music, and blues. After playing guitar in Joe Ely's touring band and appearing on one studio album, he spent time in Austin with his own group, first Ian Moore and Moment's Notice, then The Ian Moore Band. Prior to Luminaria's release, he moved to Vashon Island, located in Puget Sound near Seattle in the State of Washington, where portions of "To Be Loved" were recorded in his home studio. Covers from "Green Grass", which was his first non-Capricorn based album, include Jimmy Cliff's "Many Rivers to Cross", the Beatles' "Hey Bulldog," and Bob Dylan's "You're a Big Girl Now." He has played with such musicians as the Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, and ZZ Top, and appeared in Billy Bob Thornton's movie Sling Blade.

"Ian Moore" is his eponymous debut album. FlameUpload

10. A Good Man Is Hard To Find

Ain,t nothin, like the real thing, baby! No lean cuts here. This is 100% prime Jesse "Wild Bill" Austin with a hard-hitting big band topped off with "Blue" Lou Marini and The Blues Brothers Horns. Jesse,s unmatchable vocal chops and big Hammond organ pads show why he is a deep blues groove-master. On Fat Back of Georgia, Jesse doesn't let up. He stretches the chord progressions and the result is hypnotic. Drummer Dixson's distinctive trademark shuffle lays "just right" with Austinâs thick organ pads while the Blues Brothers Horns deliver the sting. On Cut #3 Eastcoast diva Maydie Myles moves mountains. On Cut #9 Harry Batchelor from the Jimi Hendrix-Billy Cox Memphis band of the 60's once again returns to be Jesse's balladeer. And cut after cut, Jesse "Wild Bill" Austin proves that 60 is young and tough. FlameUpload

JOHN MELLENCAMP - Trouble No More (2003)

Before John Mellencamp recorded his classic Scarecrow, he learned hundreds of classic rock covers from the '60s. Here the Indiana troubadour ventures back to the very roots of American popular music, learning traditional songs associated with the likes of Robert Johnson, Son House, Howlin' Wolf, and Woody Guthrie. The result is Mellencamp's rawest album to date, updating the acoustic sounds of those early idioms for modern times while keeping them firmly rooted in tradition. In that sense, it's not unlike his hero Bob Dylan's two country-blues cover albums from the mid - '90s though the ever - mischievous Mellencamp has a little fun with his definitions here, paying tribute to his Hoosier background by covering Bloomington native Hoagy Carmichael's "Brooklyn Oriole" and Lucinda Williams's 1980 ode to "Lafayette," while pulling a beautiful stark version of Skeeter Davis's wonderful 1963 country-pop ballad "End of the World" out of left field. The former James Brown impersonator has never sang better. The album closes with "To Washington," credited to Mellencamp, but actually a "borrowed blues" that's been used to address political figures as far back as Calvin Coolidge when recorded by Charlie Poole, the Carter Family, and Guthrie. This time, the song addresses one George W. Bush and surely won't gain Mellencamp any new fans among those who'd support a Dixie Chicks boycott. - amazon.com FlameUpload

Apostrophe (’) is an album by Frank Zappa, his eighteenth, released on April 22, 1974 in both stereo and quadraphonic formats. An edited version of its lead-off track, “Don’t Eat the Yellow Snow”, was Zappa’s first chart single, reaching position 86. Apostrophe (’) was Zappa’s biggest commercial success, reaching number 10 on the Billboard charts and going gold on March 7, 1976. Continuing from the commercial breakthrough of Over-Nite Sensation (1973), this album is a similar mix of short songs showcasing Zappa’s humor and musical arrangements. The record’s lyrical themes are often bizarre or obscure, with the exception of “Uncle Remus” which is an extension of Zappa’s feelings on racial disharmony featured on his earlier song "Trouble Every Day". VAN MORRISON - It's Too Late To Stop Now (1974)

Given his early roots in Irish show bands steeped in American R&B, Van Morrison's power as a live performer is as riveting in his "on" nights as it can be frustrating when he's not in the mood. But his sheer power as a singer, and his long tradition of crack bands, has translated to an awful lot of good nights--enough to spawn three compelling live albums, of which this is the first and best. Recorded during his San Franciscan residency of the early '70s, with his ambitious Caledonia Soul Orchestra, this double album documents Morrison at an early vocal peak and benefits from a set list culled from his early solo masterpieces, including Moondance and Astral Weeks. As such, It's Too Late to Stop Now clicks as both anthology and coherent concert document, a classic live album. - amazon.com

THE OSMONDS - Live in Las Vegas - 50th Anniversary Reunion Concert (2008)

It's a rare feat for an entertainment act to celebrate a 50th anniversary, but everyone knows the Osmonds are a rare treat. Performing together for the first time in 27 years, the clan pulled out all the stops for a sold-out crowd at the Orleans Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas in 2007. The concert includes all of the chart-topping hits by each incarnation, the Osmond Brothers together, then Donny and Marie, each as a soloist. The Osmond Brothers hits "One Bad Apple," "Down by the Lazy River," "The Proud One," "Having a Party," "Double Loving," and "Yo Yo" are all there. Donny's stint includes his solo hits "Breeze on By," "Puppy Love," and "Soldier of Love." Marie's solo set includes "Paper Roses" and a Broadway medley. Slice it any way you want, but the Osmonds' musical prowess has been practically unparalleled for half a century, never going out of style, never acting in bad taste, and always entertaining. - All Music Guide

Steve Earle is set to release Townes, his highly anticipated follow up to the Grammy Award winning album Washington Square Serenade. The 15-song set is comprised of songs written by Earle s friend and mentor, the late singer-songwriter, Townes Van Zandt. Townes will also be available as a deluxe two-CD set, as well as double Limited Edition 180 gram vinyl. The album was produced by Earle at his home in Greenwich Village, at Sound Emporium and Room and Board in Nashville, TN and The Nest in Hollywood, CA. The track Lungs, was produced and mixed by the Dust Brothers John King and features Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine/The Nightwatchman on electric guitar. Earle s wife, the acclaimed singer-songwriter Allison Moorer, is featured on backing vocals on Loretta and To Live Is To Fly. Three songs cut in Nashville, White Freightliner Blues, Delta Momma Blues, and Don t Take It Too Bad feature a bluegrass band consisting of Dennis Crouch, Tim O Brien, Darrel Scott and Shad Cobb.

The songs selected for Townes were the ones that meant the most to Earle and the ones he personally connected to (not including selections featured on previous Earle albums). Some of the selections chosen were songs that Earle has played his entire career ( Pancho and Lefty, Lungs, White Freightliner Blues ) and others he had to learn specifically for recording. He learned the song (Quicksilver Daydreams of) Maria directly from Van Zandt, and taught himself Marie and Rake specifically for the album s recording. Once a song he played during his live show, Earle relearned Colorado Girl in the original Open D tuning that Van Zandt played it in. Earle recorded the New York sessions solo and then added the other instruments later on in order to preserve the spirit of Van Zandt s original solo performances to the best of his recollection. - amazon.com

Full Moon Fever is the first solo album by Tom Petty, though it features contributions from several members of his backing band, the Heartbreakers, along with fellow members of the Traveling Wilburys. Mainly, it was an opportunity for Tom Petty to record several tracks he had written with Electric Light Orchestra front man/Traveling Wilbury collaborator Jeff Lynne before Lynne jetted back to England after a stay in America. However, as Petty thought that they "sounded nothing like Heartbreakers songs," he decided to record them primarily as solo efforts, which at first stirred a bit of controversy amongst some of the band mates. It is also noteworthy that some of the greatest hits that helped define the band as a modern rock legend, namely "Free Fallin'," "I Won't Back Down," and "Runnin' Down a Dream," were ironically cuts off an album sans the Heartbreakers moniker. The record itself shows Petty's musical roots and influences with a Byrds cover ("I'll Feel a Whole Lot Better") and a nod to Del Shannon ("Runnin' Down a Dream"'s lyric of me and Del were singin' little "Runaway"). The album features one of Petty's most popular and recognizable songs, "Free Fallin'". FlameUpload

MANASSAS

Led by Stephen Stills, with Chris Hillman (the Byrds, Flying Burrito Brothers), Paul Harris (session musician for B.B. King, Eric Anderson, and many others), Joe Lala (Blues Image), Al Perkins (Flying Burrito Brothers), Calvin "Fuzzy" Samuels (Crosby, Stills, & Nash), and Dallas Taylor (Crosby, Stills, & Nash), Manassas was one of the most talented units in music at the time. Equally at home with Latin jams, rock, blues, country, folk, and bluegrass, they were also one of the most versatile outfits in rock history.

Formed in 1971 from the sessions for what was going to be Stills' third solo album, the chemistry of the musicians he gathered was so intense that before long they were a full-fledged band. With an album completed (at hotspot Criteria Studios in Miami), the group was still without a name. Yet despite this they embarked on a small tour. At a train station in Manassas, VA, a picture of the group standing under a Manassas sign was taken, giving birth to their name and, conveniently, the album cover.

"Manassas" (1972)

The first fourth of the album focuses on '60s rock with Afro-Cuban overtones (imagine Buffalo Springfield sitting in with Santana), followed by a batch of country and bluegrass-oriented material (with Chris Hillman's influence more strongly felt). The dreamy, swaying "It Doesn't Matter" kicks off the third section, which has a folk-rock feel, replete with multi-part harmonies and chiming guitars. The final section brings things back to amped-up rock, wrapping up the set with the rootsy groove of "Blues Man", a tribute to Jimi Hendrix. A rich and varied collection that is as sophisticated and complex as it is earthy and easy to listen to, MANASSAS is considered by many to be one of the great overlooked gems of the '70s rock. Following the release of Down the Road, Manassas broke up. Perhaps they should have done so before recording this disc, for there is little here to recommend it. Two cuts, Chris Hillman's "Lies" and Stephen Stills' "Do You Remember the Americans," are of some worth, but the rest come off sounding like lame attempts at Latin-inflected blues jams with embarrassing lyrics to boot. Zuzu Bollin (1922 – 1990) was an American blues guitarist from Frisco, Texas. Originally born 'A.D. Bollin', the name 'Zuzu' is believed to refer to a brand of ginger-snap cookies popular at the time. Zuzu was thought to be dead until he was rediscovered in 1988 living in Dallas Texas by Dallas Blues Society Records founder Chuck Nevitt. Nevitt gathered together a top notch band and produced Bollin's first full length LP "Texas Bluesman" in 1989 as the debut release on Dallas Blues Society Records. This record was sold to Antones Records a couple of years later, and Antones released it on CD. This recording augmented Zuzu's only 4 sides (two 78rpm records) recorded in the early 50s on the Dallas based Torch label. Before his death in 1990 Zuzu made festival dates both in the states and abroad. - wiki

Zuzu's principal contribution to Texas blues history is an immaculately realized collection that includes remakes of both sides of his debut 78 (the original version of "Why Don't You Eat Where You Slept Last Night" is available on Vol. 3 of Rhino's Blues Masters series, "Texas Blues") and a uniformly tasty lineup of jump blues goodies. The sterling band includes guitarist Duke Robillard (who co-produced), drummer George Rains, and saxists David Newman and Kaz Kazanoff. - All Music Guide

JOHNNY RIVERS - Last Train To Memphis (1998)

Johnny Rivers is an American rock and roll singer, songwriter, guitarist, and record producer. He was versatile enough to do folk songs, blues, and revivals of old-time rock 'n' roll songs and some original material. Rivers's greatest success came in the mid and late 1960s with a string of hit songs (including "Seventh Son", "Poor Side of Town", "Summer Rain", and "Secret Agent Man"), but he has continued to record and perform to the present.

Johnny Rivers' first album of new material in nearly two decades, 1998's LAST TRAIN TO MEMPHIS is a fine collection of Rivers originals and the usual batch of oldies reinterpreted in that inimitable Rivers way. Rivers first made his name with his residency at the Whiskey A-Go-Go on Sunset Strip, and it's probably not a coincidence that this album's leadoff track is called "Down at the House of Blues," after the 1990s mass-market pretender to the Whiskey's long-vacated throne. DAEVID ALLEN & MOTHER GONG - The Owl And The Tree (1990)

Daevid Allen is an Australian poet, guitarist, singer, composer and performance artist best known as co-founder of the psychedelic rock groups Soft Machine (in the UK, 1966) and Gong (in France, 1970). He is sometimes credited as "Divided Alien". Mother Gong is basically the partnership of singer Gilli Smyth and multi-instrumentalist Harry Williamson along with various friends and family, this time including Hawkwind's Robert Calvert on saxophone. (He essays some lovely solos on "Unseen Ally" and "La Dea Madri.") Their former Gong bandmate Daevid Allen, as the credits humorously sest, is "a collection of sub-personalities held together by their friend"; the sub-personalities on display on his half of the split album The Owl and the Tree are that of the Incredible String Band-like psych-folk gnome (a word that he pronounces with the G in the charming "The Owly Song") and the blissed-out space rocker on the lovely 14-and-a-half-minute multi-part suite "I Am My Own Lover." Mother Gong's half of the record is equally fine, a combination of prettily meandering instrumentals and Smyth's familiar fairy tale recitations. The two halves don't really mesh as much as they occupy similar orbits, but with Mother Gong and Daevid Allen lacking the space to get too self-indulgent, they both deliver some of their most focused and enjoyable music.

Originally released on vinyl in 1990 with one side by Mother Gong and the other by Daevid. Recorded at the same time as Daevid's 'Australia Aquaria' album it has a similar feel. But with obviously a stronger presence, Mother Gong's jazz based rock and intelligently melodic music dominates. The CD has one more track than the vinyl version. FlameUpload

Fans of the kind of gentle, introspective, and melodic acoustic guitar playing that helped define new age music in its late '70s and '80s heyday will make fast friends with this collection of reinterpretations by one of the genre's formative masters. Ackerman, whose career spans from his cheaply recorded 1976 debut, ...The Turtle's Navel, through his Grammy-nominated 2001 hit Hearing Voices, made an an art form out of musical reflection while also founding and guiding Windham Hill into a presence as one of the world's top instrumental labels. His goal was to take a series of 11 favorite songs, some originally recorded with an ensemble from 1970-1997 and record them for posterity in a way that reflects the emotional nuances, precision, and maturing beauty they've picked up along the road. He includes the graceful and lushly melodic "The Bricklayer's Beautiful Daughter" (which he names the best song he ever wrote), the sweet and melancholy "Anne's Song" (inspired by working with fellow genre legends Alex de Grassi and Michael Hedges), and two peaceful early gems from 1970, "Pictures" and "Barbara's Song." Some were written as celebrations ("Unconditional"), others as elegies ("The Impending Death of the Virgin Spirit"), but all are intricate snapshots of a vastly influential musical life that keeps inventive to this day. ~ All Music Guide

Nico Wayne Toussaint is a young French harp player based in Pau, in the south of France. He has only been playing since his teens, but he's sure been getting the right lessons and doing the right stuff ! He studied and cut his two albums (reviewed below) in the US, and he sure sounds like he's coming from there. His playing is very powerful, with a deep tone and a heavy throat vibrato that he often amplifies through a green bullet and Peavey valve amp. His sound is therefore very fat and suits his blues style well. Amongst his influences, one can hear James Cotton, RJ Mischo (with whom he studied in Minneapolis) and most of the West Coast harp players (Rod Piazza, William Clarke, Kim Wilson, etc.)

TEARS FOR FEARS

Tears for Fears are an English pop rock band formed in the early 1980s by Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith. Founded after the dissolution of their first band, the mod-influenced Graduate, they were initially associated with the New Wave synthesizer bands of the early 1980s, but later branched out into mainstream rock and pop which led to international chart success. The band have sold more than 22 million albums worldwide (including over 8 million in the United States alone).

Tears for Fears were always more ambitious than the average synth pop group. From the beginning, the duo of Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith were tackling big subjects - their very name derived from Arthur Janov's primal scream therapy, and his theories were evident throughout their debut, The Hurting. Driven by catchy, infectious synth pop, The Hurting became a big hit in their native England, setting the stage for international stardom with their second album, 1985's Songs From the Big Chair. On the strength of the singles "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" and "Shout," the record became a major hit, establishing the duo as one of the leading acts of the second generation of MTV stars. Instead of quickly recording a follow-up, Tears for Fears labored over their third album, the psychedelic and jazz-rock-tinged The Seeds of Love. While the album was a big hit, it was the end of an era instead of a new beginning. Smith left the group early in the '90s, and Orzabal continued with Tears for Fears, pursuing more sophisticated and pretentious directions to a smaller audience.

DIANA KRALL - Quiet Nights (2009)

The Grammy-winning singer returns with her latest album featuring ballads and bossa nova. The romantic album combines Brazilian and west coast jazz styles and features three recordings of songs by bossa nova legend Antonio Carlos Jobim. 'Quiet Nights' reunites Krall with arranger Claus Ogerman for the first time since the multi-platinum 2001 album 'The Look of Love.' The GRAMMY Award winning pianist and vocalist adds Paulinho Da Costa on percussion to her already outstanding quartet of Anthony Wilson (guitar), John Clayton (bass) and Jeff Hamilton (drums). Krall co-produced the album with Tommy LiPuma, the tenth time they have worked together, and returned to Capital Studios in Hollywood with Al Schmitt engineering and mixing. 'Quiet Nights' is Krall's 12th album and her first full length studio release since 2006's 'From This Moment On.' That album garnered her a third consecutive Top 10 Billboard 200 chart position as critics deemed "This is Krall at her best." (Christian Science Monitor, 9.22.06). In 2007 Verve released 'The Very Best of Diana Krall,' the first career retrospective of Krall's music, which featured three previously unreleased songs. Diana Krall has topped both the pop and jazz charts, played sold-out amphitheaters in multiple countries and sold millions of records worldwide since her debut in 1993. She has proven her genuine talent and credibility as a mold-breaking jazz musician time and time again. Flameupload (6 mirrors) OR MassMirror (4 mirrors)

S A G A

Slightly better than casual recognition in their own country, but superstar status in Europe is the story of Saga. Formed from the core of Fludd, bassist Jim Chricton, Peter Rachon on keyboards and drummer Steve Negus recruited Chricton's younger brother Ian on guitars. Pockets was born. The group toured the local Toronto area doing bars for a few months until singer Michael Sadler left a local group called Truck to become their frontman. His vocal stylings blended with their progressive yet eclectic sound. It wasn't long before the group was noticed by Maze Records and signed to a deal shortly thereafter. Recorded by Paul Gross at Toronto's Phase One Studios, their self-titled debut was released in '78 and was instantly met with rave reviews for their tight, sophisticated approach. Though the single, "How Long" failed to make an impression on the charts here, it received constant airplay in Britain and Germany. Also heavy on the charts overseas was "Humble Stance". Gross returned as producer for the next project. IMAGES AT TWILIGHT came out a year later and again was met favourably by the critics. With new keyboardist Greg Chadd, "It's Time" and "See Them Smile" did receive airplay in the Toronto area, but both failed to make much of an impression anywhere else in North America. Again though, the band's hard-edged guitar sound mixed with progressive keyboard rhythms were more appreciated in Europe, sparking an overseas tour.

1980 saw the release of SILENT KNIGHT. Maturity showed in the writing, evidenced by "Don't Be Late" becoming their first gold single. New keyboardist Jim Gilmour also brought a new element to the songwriting process. Even so, the album still failed to garner the success they already enjoyed in Europe. So again the band spent a good deal of their time touring England and Germany venturing into the former eastern block countries, in support of other radio hits there such as "Help Me Out" and "Careful Where You Step". Their breakthrough album in North America came in the form of 1981's WORLDS APART. Produced by Rupert Hine, whose credits included The Fixx, Howard Jones, Thompson Twins, Chris DeBurgh, Tina Turner and Stevie Nicks, it instantly saw "On The Loose" go platinum followed by "Amnesia" and "Wind Him Up", the tale of an obsessive gambler. The album also saw Gilmour sing lead on "No Regrets". A more commercially acceptable sound supported a North American tour, but for the most part, Europe was their bread and butter...www.canadianbands.com

Neil Young's most recent obsession - a retooled 1959 Lincoln Continental that runs entirely on alternative energy - is the inspiration behind "Fork in the Road," the 63-year old musician's new studio album. Recorded in 2008 between tour dates with his live band Ben Keith (pedal steel guitar, keyboards), Chad Cromwell (drums), Rick Rosas (bass), Pegi Young (vocals) and Anthony Crawford (vocals, guitar), "Fork" is a further rumination on Young's social and ecological concerns. The album's main themes are drawn from Young's involvement with the Lincvolt Project, a joint effort between the singer and biodiesel pioneer Johnathan Goodwin to develop a commercially viable electric power system for automobiles. The prototype Lincvolt vehicle, Young's own 1959 Lincoln Continental, is now completely finished, and a documentary is planned about the car's first cross-country gasoline-free road trip to Washington, DC. Young even named one of the album's songs, "Johnny Magic,' after his Lincvolt partner. A special edition of "Fork in the Road," which includes a DVD that features three music videos and a live concert video of Young performing the Beatles’ “A Day in the Life".

BETH HART

Beth Hart is an American singer who became famous with the hit "LA Song (Out of This Town)". Her musical influences include rock, blues and gospel. Her vocal style has been described as raw and passionate, with some similarities to Joan Armatrading and Janis Joplin. Beth Hart dropped out of high school to focus on her songwriting. While playing the Los Angeles clubs, she enlisted veteran bassist Tal Herzberg and guitarist Jimmy Khoury. In the early 90s, Hart appeared on Ed McMahon's Star Search several times, where she won multiple times and eventually went on to win the grand prize of $100,000 in the Female Vocalist category for the season. Hart released her first album Immortal with her band Beth Hart Band in 1996. Recorded while she was heavily addicted to drugs, she projected a tone of anger, confusion, and imbalance. The band broke up after a tour and Hart's career seemed to be finished. Hart fell under the spell of blues singer Etta James for her second album, Screamin' for My Supper (Atlantic, 1999), that also reflects her soul-searching after a number of tragedies and her recovery from drugs. The tender "LA Song (Out of This Town)" gave her a little notoriety, becoming a top 5 Adult Contemporary Chart hit, but "Get Your Shit Together" showcased more character. At the same time, Hart was singing the lead role in "Love, Janis," an Off-Broadway musical based on Joplin's letters home to her mother.

BOB DYLAN - Together Through Life (2009)

"Together Through Life" is singer-songwriter Bob Dylan's 33rd studio album. Rumors of the album, reported in Rolling Stone magazine came as a surprise, with no official press release until March 16, 2009 — less than two months before the album's release date. Dylan produced the record under his pseudonym of "Jack Frost", which he used for his previous two studio albums, "Love and Theft" and Modern Times. The album is rumored to contain "strling love songs" and have little similarity to Modern Times. In a conversation with music journalist Bill Flanagan, published on Bob Dylan's official website, Flanagan sested a similarity of the new record to the sound of Chess Records and Sun Records, which Dylan acknowledged as an effect of "the way the instruments were played." He said that the genesis of the record was when French film director Olivier Dahan asked him to supply a song for his new road movie, My Own Love Song, and "then the record sort of took its own direction." The song written for the movie is "Life is Hard." Dylan is backed on the album by his regular touring band, plus David Hidalgo of Los Lobos and Mike Campbell of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.
