The Electric Flag, formed in 1967, was a blues rock soul group led by guitarist Mike Bloomfield, keyboardist Barry Goldberg, and bassist Harvey Brooks. Bloomfield formed Electric Flag after his stint with The Butterfield Blues Band. The band reached its peak with the 1968 release, A Long Time Comin', a fusion of rock, jazz, and R&B styles that charted well in the Billboard Magazine Pop Albums listings. This "live" performance by the Electric Flag sounds like a bootleg recording; probably made in 1968, with Mike Bloomfield, Buddy Miles, and perhaps the rest of the "original" line-up (Goldberg, Gravenites, Brooks, et al.); it has been packaged under titles such as "Greatest Hits of ..." and so on; "I Should Have Left Her" is a version of "Killin" Floor" from their studio lp, "A Long time Comin'," and two other songs are live renditions of songs from that studio lp; several of the songs, sung by Miles, are what may be called r&b ballads; it's hard to tell if all of the songs are live, though; while the sound quality is only fair, it's great to hear Bloomfield, et al. live - although there's not a lot of Bloomfield letting loose; assuming that this is a bootleg, be aware that the "bootlegger" was in close proximity to the keyboardist (probably Barry Goldberg); nevertheless, it's a wonderful, rare snapshot of another '60s band with a lot of potential, but which crashed and burned instead.
