LED ZEPPELIN - Led Zeppelin I (1969)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us FLAC
Digitaly remastered from the original master tapes by Jimmy Page and George Marino at Sterling Sound - 1994.

Led Zeppelin is the eponymous debut album of English rock band Led Zeppelin. It was recorded in October 1968 at Olympic Studios in London and released on Atlantic Records on January 12, 1969. The album featured integral contributions from each of the group's four musicians and established Led Zeppelin's unique fusion of blues and rock. Led Zeppelin also created a large and devoted following for the band, with their unique heavy metal and psychedelic rock sound endearing them to a section of the counterculture on both sides of the Atlantic. - from Wikipedia

FLAC stands for Free Lossless Audio Codec, an audio format similar to MP3, but lossless, meaning that audio is compressed in FLAC without any loss in quality. This is similar to how Zip works, except with FLAC you will get much better compression because it is designed specifically for audio, and you can play back compressed FLAC files in your favorite player just like you would an MP3 file.

Of course, Zep I mp3 files are here and here.

ROBERTA FLACK & DONNY HATHAWAY - S/T (1972)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us 192

In the 1970s, R&B came to be dominated by glossy production, lending the music a slick, processed sound. Albums like 1972's ROBERTA FLACK & DONNY HATHAWAY, however, have an organic feel more closely tied to the rootsy soul traditions of the '60s. Flack was arguably the era's greatest practitioner of this strain of soulful, reflective R&B (check out her remarkable '69 debut, FIRST TAKE), and her first collaboration with keyboardist and vocalist Donny Hathaway is one of her finest efforts.

JENNIFER WARNES - Famous Blue Raincoat (1987)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us 256

Jennifer Warnes was familiar with Leonard Cohen from a tour of duty as one of his backup singers in the early '70s, but this collection of Cohen's songs must have shocked her AM radio fans who knew her from her '70s country-pop hits and her movie themes, if they were even able to connect the woman who sang, "It's the Right Time of the Night for Makin' Love" with the one who declared, "First we take Manhattan," then we take Berlin" over stinging guitar work by Stevie Ray Vaughan on the opening track here. As that pairing sests, Warnes wisely took a tougher, more contemporary approach to the arrangements than such past Cohen interpreters as Judy Collins used to. Where other singers tended to geld Cohen's often disturbingly revealing poetry, Warnes, working with the composer himself and introducing a couple of great new songs ("First We Take Manhattan" and "Song of Bernadette," which she co-wrote), matched his own versions. The high point may have been the Warnes-Cohen duet on "Joan of Arc," but the album was consistently impressive. And it went a long way toward re-establishing Cohen, whose reputation was in a minor eclipse in the mid-'80s. A year later, with the way paved for him, he released his brilliant comeback album, I'm Your Man. For Warnes, the album meant her first taste of real critical success: suddenly a singer who had seemed like a second-rate Linda Ronstadt now appeared to be a first-class interpretive artist.

LUCINDA WILLIAMS - Car Wheels On A Gravel Road

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us 256
Deluxe Edition 2006

It's been eight years since Lucinda Williams released the original verion of her hit album Car Wheels on a Gravel Road. The original release pushed Williams well into the realm of being considered one of the great living singer/songwriters. Now, with the reissue Deluxe Edition, this classic album is revisited in the most tasteful way, complete with a stellar live performance of Lucinda Williams live at the World Cafe. Whether you're listening to the original, or this newly remastered version, Car Wheels on a Gravel Road is an outstanding record. In a way that few artists manage to capture, Lucinda Williams single-handedly marries the genres of traditional and alternative country, roots rock and American folk music so smoothly, it almost feels like magic. This time around, though Car Wheels is sporting a couple of wonderful bonus tracks, particularly the hauntingly catchy "Still I Long For Your Kiss." There's also an original, previously unissued version of "Out of Touch," and the 13-song live concert performance of Lucinda Williams live at the World Cafe. This includes many of the songs from Car Wheels, as well as great performances of some of her older tunes.

THE NICE - The BBC Sessions: America (1996)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us 192

This collection of previously unreleased BBC session recordings, made from 1967 to 1970, has no better than bootleg sound quality, but fans will enjoy it nonetheless. The performances are good, with Keith Emerson showing off his furious technique, and four songs are featured that the band never released elsewhere. Two are presumably originals, and two are jazz covers; Roy Harper guests on Sonny Rollins's "St. Thomas," singing words he wrote at the session, and the track here called "Sombrero King" is actually a version of Charles Lloyd's "Sombrero Sam." The latter track is the only one in the collection that features guitarist Davy O'List. "Little Arabella" is a pointless inclusion, as it's identical to the album version on Ars Longa Vita Brevis, and "Happy Freuds" sounds like just a remix of its album counterpart, but aside from that this is a worthwhile addition to the Nice catalog.

02. One of Those People

SHEMEKIA COPELAND

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Shemekia Copeland is an American blues singer. The daughter of blues guitarist and singer Johnny Copeland, she began to pursue a singing career in earnest at age 16, when her father's health began to decline; he took Shemekia on tour as his opening act, which helped establish her name on the blues circuit. She landed a record deal with Alligator, which issued her debut album "Turn the Heat Up!" in 1998....

Copeland's high-flyin' super-charged vocals are a bona-fide new version of the blues. Sweet and bittersweet, honest and brash, she has a power, maturity and expertise in the blues that is unexpected in one so young.

"The Soul Truth" (2005)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us VBR

That record's follow-up, THE SOUL TRUTH, sticks with the theme of top-notch producers by enlisting R&B session-man extraordinaire Steve Cropper. In addition to his duties behind the boards, Cropper contributes his spare-yet-fiery guitar lines to almost every track here. Copeland's bold, full-bodied vocals work wonderfully with Cropper's unmistakable playing, and, on most tunes, these key elements blend with tight rhythms and boisterous horns. Highlights of THE SOUL TRUTH include the funky "Better Not Touch," the rollicking "You Can't Have That," and the closing number, "Something Heavy," which features only Copeland's yearning voice and Cropper's acoustic guitar. This is 21st-century blues that hearkens back to 1960s and '70s soul, and the combination proves to be yet another impressive step in Copeland's own building legacy.

BLOOD SWEAT & TEARS - Nuclear Blues (1980)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us 320

This 1980 edition of rock's longest-running horn band is definitely not your father's Blood, Sweat & Tears. Frontman David Clayton-Thomas is still on board, but everybody else is new. The musical emphasis has mostly shifted, from pop/soul with a jazz flavor to out-and-out fusion jazz, such as "Agitato," and the lengthy and often quite lovely "Spanish Wine" suite, with only an occasional lead vocal (a radically re-arranged cover of Jimi Hendrix's "Manic Depression"). Big exceptions include the title tune, in which Clayton-Thomas vents his paranoia about Three Mile Island, and an impassioned, if relatively straightforward, cover of the old blues standard "I'll Drown In My Own Tears."

ROBERT PLANT - Dreamland (2002)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us 320

While there's nothing particularly retro about the proceedings on DREAMLAND, Robert Plant's first solo album of the 21st century finds him reaching back to his roots. This entails not so much a return to the turbo-blues bombast of Led Zeppelin, but a look even further back to the country blues that inspired the young, pre-Zep Plant, and to the kind of psych-folk troubadours whose magic filled the air when "Stairway to Heaven" was just a gleam in Jimmy Page's eye. Towards this end, Plant deconstructs/reconstructs old blues tunes such as "Fixin' To Die" and "Win My Train Fare Home" as well as tackling material by the likes of Tim Buckley (the shimmering "Song to the Siren," Skip Spence (the Moby Grape-era "Skip's Song"), and Bob Dylan (a Middle Eastern-tinged take on "One More Cup of Coffee"). Though most of Plant's solo career has frankly not been rife with memorable songs, he comes up with a number of impressive original tunes here, showing that he knows how to keep up with the present and the future as well as the past.

DREAMLAND was nominated for the 2003 Grammy Awards for Best Rock Album. "Darkness, Darkness" was nominated for the 2003 Grammy Awards for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance.

ERIC SARDINAS

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Eric Sardinas is an American blues-rock guitarist. He is noted for his use of the electric resonator guitar and his powerful live performances. Like the early blues folk, he played acoustic for a living on the street, then formed the Eric Sardinas Project (ESP) by hooking up with bassist Paul Loranger at a jam session. Loranger had the ideal sound that Sardinas wanted, a bassist who had exceptional playing ability on upright and electric and could work the upright in a blues-rock context. Two years later, drummer Scott Palacios joined them. It took ESP six years of experience of performing nearly 300 shows annually, playing from acoustic gigs in coffeehouses to sharing the bill with rock bands at Hollywood clubs. Musical-instrument companies sent them gigging at showcase concerts, which led the band to a gig as the opening act for a West Coast swing of a Johnny Winter's tour. Word got around, receiving the attention of Evidence Records. Blues discoverer Dick Shurman produced Sardinas' 1999 debut, Treat Me Right. In 2000, Sardinas released a three-song single spotlighting his burning take on J.B. Hutto's "Angel Face." Devil's Train, his second full-length album, followed in 2001 and featured more of Sardinas' trademark blues-rock.

“The blues is an emotionally pure form of music. If you’re not speaking from the heart with true emotion or being honest with who you are...you will be revealed.” – Eric Sardinas

B.B. KING - Blues Summit (1993)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us VBR

This is B.B. King's most delightful recording of the '90s. He duets with other blues greats, including Koko Taylor ("Something You Got"), Buddy Guy ("I Pity the Fool"), Etta James ("There's Something on Your Mind"), Ruth Brown ("You're the Boss"), and his dear friend John Lee Hooker ("You Shook Me"). The '60s group Manfred Mann is now considered, more than ever, one of the finest and most respected bands from that era. First with Paul Jones and with Mike d'Abolater on, the band managed to compete strongly despite constantly changing musical trends of the '60s. As a result, their records have a timeless quality that many of their contemporaries never attained.

RUTHIE FOSTER - The Phenomenal Ruthie Foster (2007)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us 320

"Ruthie Foster's the newest voice in old-school soul. Her fifth album is a remarkable flashback to the genre's '60s and '70s heyday, framing her warm butter-and-cayenne-pepper singing with organ, electric piano, shimmering guitar textures, and strong backbeats. That sound, along with her strength as a song interpreter--rippling with beauty on Lucinda Williams's "Fruits of My Labor," stunningly emotional on Son House's cautionary Delta spiritual "People Grinnin' in Your Face"--and her fine-tuned social politics, makes Aretha Franklin, Roberta Flack, and Nina Simone reasonable artistic references. For the 42-year-old Texan, this historic approach is new. Until now she's been an obscure acoustic-guitar-wielding singer-songwriter. And, indeed, the evocative lyricism of her own tunes "Harder Than the Fall," "Heal Yourself," and "Beaver Creek Blues" is clearly the work of an experienced craftsperson. But the performances on this elegant album, made under the tutelage of imaginative and empathetic Austin-based producer Malcolm Welbourne, live up to its boastful title, and seem destined to bring Foster the larger audience she deserves." - Amazon.com

LED ZEPPELIN - The Song Remains the Same (1976)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us 320
2007 REMASTER

Led Zeppelin s sold-out concert tours became rituals of high-energy rock and roll theater. The SONG REMAINS THE SAME...attests to the group s powerful and somewhat saturnalian appeal at the height of their popularity. - from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame s web page on the band s 1995 induction

The Hall of Fame s assessment of the legendary band also states, Led Zeppelin redefined rock in the Seventies and for all time. They were as influential in that decade as the Beatles were in the prior one...Then and now, Led Zeppelin looms larger than life on the rock landscape as a band for the ages with an almost mystical power to evoke primal passions. That power is communicated full-force in the updated, 2CD reissue of the soundtrack to their concert film THE SONG REMAINS THE SAME. First released in 76, the recording captures a celebrated three-night stand at NYC s Madison Square Garden in July 1973.

The newly updated edition now contains six songs (*) not featured on the original release, and the entire project was remixed and remastered with the band members direct oversight.

RETURN TO FOREVER - Live (1977)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us 320
2000 REMASTER

Return to Forever is the name of a jazz fusion band founded and led by keyboardist Chick Corea. The band cycled through many members, but the only consistent band mate of Corea's was bassist Stanley Clarke. Along with Weather Report and Mahavishnu Orchestra, these bands are often seen as the core of jazz fusion music in the 1970s. Several musicians, including Clarke, Flora Purim, Airto Moreira and Al Di Meola first became well-known through their performances on Return to Forever's albums.

The final Return to Forever album, by Chick Corea's third group to use that name, is a massive four-LP box set that documents a complete concert. This band, in addition to the keyboards of Chick Corea, featured electric bassist Stanley Clarke and singer Gayle Moran plus the reeds of Joe Farrell, drummer Gerry Brown and a five-piece brass section. The music is generally pretty jazz-oriented with extended versions of such songs as "The Musician," "So Long Mickey Mouse," "Musicmagic" and "Spanish Fantasy" along with a piano/bass duet encore version of "On Green Dolphin Street." Worth searching for.

Recorded live at the Palladium theater in New York City , May 20 1977.

IAN GILLAN BAND - Child In Time (1976)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us 320

Ian Gillan left Deep Purple because he was tired with the very busy schedule DP were into (recording, touring). After a year of doing nothing connected with music he returned with a fusion of jazz and rock which Ian Gillan Band presented. The band wasn't too popular but tends to be praised these days and I'm glad because it's a piece of really intelligent music and gives an opportunity for Gillan to show how versatile vocalist he is. The debut album isn't as good as the next two but it's a sort of a premise for the future recordings from IGB. Gillan sings beautifully and and there's a very intriguing remake of "Child In Time" which orthodox DP fans tend dislike but the new arrangement gives it even greater depth.

JETHRO TULL - The Broadsword And The Beast (1982)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us VBR
2005 REMASTER

"The Broadsword and The Beast" is an album released by Jethro Tull on April 1982 and according to Ian Anderson in the liner notes of the remastered CD, contains some of Jethro Tull's best music. It was made during Jethro Tull's electronic period but has a folk-like flavor to it. The 2005 CD reissue of the album was expanded to include eight bonus tracks recorded during the Broadsword sessions, but not included in the original 1982 album. The main reason for this was the limitation of the LP album format and to release all the tracks would have meant a double-album, something their record label had not contracted them for.

JIMMY REED - Jimmy Reed at Carnegie Hall (1961)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us 192

Mathis James "Jimmy" Reed (1925-1976) was an American blues singer notable for bringing his distinctive style of blues to mainstream audiences. Reed was a major player in the field of electric blues, as opposed to the more acoustic-based sound of many of his contemporaries.

"Jimmy Reed at Carnegie Hall" is an album, released in 1961 he generous 23-song set list, nearly all Reed originals, includes some of the performer's best tunes, including the ching "Bright Lights, Big City," the insistent "Ain't That Lovin' You Baby," and the slow-burning "You Don't Have to Go." The music is steeped in the primal, hypnotic rhythms of the Delta tradition, with a dash of savvy electric Chicago blues for balance, but the overall vibe is warm and mellow. The set is characterized by Reed's trademark muted, swampy sound, which would go on to influence a generation of young bluesmen and rockers.

"The Queen Of Soul" and 17-time Grammy winner adds another jewel to her crown with the release of a must have collection of show-stopping duets from her new album. The disc ends with Aretha's famous rendition of "Nessum Dorma" from the 1998 Grammy Awards broadcast, when she stepped in for the ailing Luciano Pavarotti at almost literally the last minute. JAMES TAYLOR - One Man Band (2007)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.usVBR

James Taylor is an American singer-songwriter and guitarist. Taylor's career began in the mid-1960s, but he found his audience in the early 1970s, singing sensitive and gentle acoustic songs. He was part of a wave of singer-songwriters of the time that also included Joni Mitchell, Tom Rush, Cat Stevens, Carole King, John Denver,Jim Croce, Don McLean, Jackson Browne as well as Carly Simon, whom Taylor later married. His 1976 album Greatest Hits was certified diamond and has sold more than 11 million copies. He has retained a large audience well into the 1990s and early 2000s, when some of his best-selling and most-awarded albums were released.

True to the album's title, the live concert on the CD features just Taylor's warm, mellow voice and his soulful, folk-influenced acoustic guitar. Recorded live in front of a hometown crowd in the hills of western Massachusetts, these 19 songs stretch back over 40 years, all the way to his first single, "Something in the Way She Moves," and include fine renditions of all his most beloved songs as well as several wry anecdotes about them. JASON RICCI & NEW BLOOD - Rocket Number 9 (2007)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us 192

Nashville harmonica wizard Ricci and his versatile backing band rip, strut and slink through 12 blues-inflected numbers on their latest, produced by Grammy-winner John Porte (Los Lonely Boys, Bonnie Raitt, Keb' Mo'). Ricci's a decent, husky-toned vocalist, but Rocket is par for the jam-band course, in that its traditional song elements don't match the thrill of the fiery instrumental passages. But Ricci has got a deeper well to draw from than most free-spirited jam-band frontmen. Now nine years sober, he did jail time for his drug use. This is a potent, distinctly Nashvillian mix of hard-earned soul and pro craft.

MOTT THE HOOPLE - Greatest Hits (1975)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us 256
2003 REMASTER

Released in 1975, as Mott the Hoople was slowly disintegrating, GREATEST HITS is a slightly odd representation of the band's years at Columbia. Although the band's breakthrough hit was its 1972 version the David Bowie-penned "All the Young Dudes," no other songs from that glam-influenced album, the band's biggest seller, are found here. Instead, the 10 tracks focus on the follow-ups, dryly cynical bar-band rock cuts dominated by the piano-organ interplay of Ian Hunter and Verdun Allen (later replaced by Morgan Fisher), as well as Hunter's sneering vocals and caustic lyrics. "The Ballad of Mott the Hoople" is a clear highlight, as is the oddly somber "Hymn for the Dudes" and the hard-rocking "Honaloochie Boogie." Casual fans looking for "Young Dudes"-like glam rock will be disappointed, but this is probably a purer picture of the band.

S.R.V. & DOUBLE TROUBLE - The Real Deal:
Greatest Hits Vol.1 (2006)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us VBR

This is a fine 16-track introduction to Stevie Ray Vaughan. Here are the early rollicking blues hits like "Texas Flood," "Couldn't Stand the Weather," and "Cold Shot," to the middle period Hendrix drenched "Say What?" "Come On, Pt. 3," and the late R&B drenched tunes such as "Crossfire," "Tightrope," and "The House Is Rockin'." There is also a live version of Elmore James "The Sky Is Crying" tagged on at the end that digs deep into blues history. This is a great introduction for novices and a cool comp for those who already have everything.

TAJ MAHAL - Blues With A Feeling: The Very Best Of (2003)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us 192

Henry Saint Clair Fredericks, better known by the stage name Taj Mahal is an American blues musician. Throughout his career, he has always been considered a bluesman, which is true enough, since the basis for everything he does has been the country blues, but he is not a traditionalist at heart, and he has always looked for ways to push the blues into new places and shapes. Adding at times rhythms and sensibilities that are drawn from reggae, ragtime, calypso, zydeco, and other genres, Mahal practices a kind of blues hybrid that is his alone, and he has been a huge influence on newer artists like Chris Thomas King and Corey Harris. This collection derives from the five albums he recorded with Private Records during the 1990s, and overlaps somewhat with The Best of the Private Years, released in 2000. Highlights include his version of Doc Pomus' "Lonely Avenue," a bebop blues take on Horace Silver's "Senor Blues," and an atmospheric reading of Goffin King's "Take a Giant Step." Among the most interesting tracks here are the ones penned by Taj Mahal himself ("Mailbox Blues," "Cakewalk into Town," "New Hula Blues"), each of which demonstrates aptly the singer's meltingpot approach to the blues.

SIMPLY RED - Greatest Hits (1996)

Pop-soulful in an archaic, '60s manner; mildly provocative at the time of their appearance due to singer Mick Hucknall's uncloseted status; Simply Red are global superstars masquerading as an urban sophisticate cult item. Fans from the U.K. and other countries already know this. But in the States we don't quite believe that a group like this can be suave without being cheesy. JOHN MARTYN - On The Cobbles (2004)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us 192
My recommendation!

John Martyn is a British singer-songwriter and guitarist. Hes "On the Cobbles" is the warmest of folky blues, consistently impressive despite being recorded in eight different studios across England, Ireland and the USA. Occasionally, as with the sparse and haunted Ghosts, he even reaches the atmospheric peaks of his classic Solid Air. As is the fashion, there are several auspicious guests--Mavis Staples, Paul Weller and the Verve's Nick McCabe--but, really, none of them add much to a set that's alternately tortured, spacey and hugely romantic. Martyn is unarguably the star of this show, excelling both as the gruff blues moaner and soft balladeer, but also testing different ground with the Pink Floyd ambience of "Go Down Easy", the spiritual jazz of "My Creator" and the dark, rootsy "Cobbles", the latter's mournful backing vocals recalling those of Nick Cave and his Bad Seeds.

NATALIE COLE - Unforgettable: With Love (1991)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us VBR

The daughter of jazz and pop legend Nat "King" Cole, Natalie Cole has forged a successful career in two phases, doing RB/urban contemporary and then jazzbased pop. She made her stage debut at age 11 and sang in college. Cole met the writing and producing team of Chuck Jackson and Marvin Yancey in 1973. The next year they collaborated on some sessions that were recorded at Curtis Mayfield's Curtom studios in Chicago. These helped her land a deal with Capitol, and she teamed with Jackson/Yancey for a string of hit albums and singles from 1975 until 1983 that yielded five number one RB hits including "This Will Be, "Inseparable," "Our Love," and "I've Got Love on My Mind." She scored more hits with "Jump Start," "I Live for Your Love," and "Over You" in 1987, and "Pink Cadillac," a cover of a Bruce Springsteen tune, in 1988, and then made her stylistic shift. Cole eased into the transition with "When I Fall in Love," a number her father recorded in 1957. It was included on her 1987 LP, Everlasting. She fully embraced the move with the 1991 LP Unforgettable: With Love, earning Grammy awards and landing a number one pop album that eventually sold over five million copies.

THE ROLLING STONES - Tattoo You (1981)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us 320

After bum-rushing the '80s with EMOTIONAL RESCUE, the Stones released TATTOO YOU, the second half of a potent one-two album punch that showed the band asserting themselves as they entered their third decade of music-making. Essentially made up of songs dating as far back as 1972 sessions for GOATS HEAD SOUP, the Stones' 1981 release is still a potent slab of swagger and sass. "Hang Fire" is a tight two-minute and twenty second redefinition of surf music, and "Start Me Up" is classic Stones, replete with Jagger's sexual braggadocio and Keith's patented "Honky Tonk Women"-style riffs. The bluesy shuffle that is "Black Limousine" is only surpassed by the cocky "Little T & A," sung by an endearingly raspy Keith Richards. Most impressive on TATTOO YOU is the wistful "Waiting On A Friend," featuring jazz giant Sonny Rollins wailing away on his saxophone as the song fades out.

V.A. - She Was Country When Country Wasn't Cool:
A Tribute To Barbara Mandrell (2006)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us 320

Barbara Mandrell hit her commercial peak in the early 1980s, when her only serious rival as the queen of country-pop crossover was Olivia Newton-John. With her TV variety series, glitzy stage show, and commercial success, some questioned whether Mandrell was country at all, though she reasserted her loyalty when she recorded "I Was Country When Country Wasn't Cool," revived here as a kickoff duet by Reba McEntire and Kenny Chesney. The range of artistry assembled for this trans-generational tribute sests that Mandrell's music remains deeply loved and widely influential, almost a decade after her retirement from music. Younger artists such as Terri Clark ("Singing Single in a Double Bed"), Brad Paisley ("In Times Like These"), and Dierks Bentley ("Fast Lanes and Country Roads") bring a hard-rocking edge to Mandrell hits, though Gretchen Wilson plays against type with the steel-guitar weeper "The Midnight Oil." Mandrell drew inspiration from outside country as well, as LeAnn Rimes reminds us with the string-drenched, rhythm & blues balladry of "If Loving You Is Wrong, I Don't Wanna Be Right," as does CeCe Winans with the sweeping gospel finale, "He Set My Life to Music." Best of all is the teaming of Willie Nelson and Shelby Lynne on the tender "This Time I Almost Made It."

02. Sleeping Single In A Double Bed - Terri Clark

STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN AND FRIENDS -
Solos, Sessions & Encores (2007)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us VBR

Upon first glance, 2007 collection Solos, Sessions & Encores might seem like little more than bottom-of-the-barrel scrapings, the last possible release that could be cobbled together from Stevie Ray Vaughan's plundered vaults. After all, this consists entirely of recordings where SRV was either a guest or a sideman, taking a spotlight on-stage or stepping into a studio to lay down a solo, and for many musicians such extracurricular activity is often tossed off, so it wouldn't add much to their legacy. Not so for Stevie Ray Vaughan. Part of his legend is built upon his boundless love for playing, of which his solo work and albums with Double Trouble was just part of the picture, so the 14 tracks on Solos, Sessions & Encores help fill out the details as everything from a previously unreleased 1978 cut with his former lover Lou Ann Barton to live recordings from ten years later is collected. Roughly half of this disc is previously unreleased -- including a blistering "Albert's Shuffle" with Albert Collins, a low-down "Change It" with Jimmie Vaughan, and a slow, smoldering "Texas Flood" where Bonnie Raitt stands toe to toe with Stevie -- but the unearthed gems matter less than the context.

01. The Sky Is Crying - (live, with A.King/B.B. King/P.Butterfield)
02. Soulful Dress - (with Marcia Ball)
03. Don`t Stop By The Creek - (studio, with Johnny Copeland)

SMALL FACES - Ultimate Collection (2003)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us VBR

Small Faces was a group from England heavily influenced by American rhythm and blues. Founded in 1965 by members Steve Marriott, Ronnie Lane, Kenney Jones, and Jimmy Winston (replaced by Ian McLagan). This is a collection that has been almost 35 years in the making. Over the years there have been many Small Faces collections, many of these promising to be the ultimate collection of Small Faces tracks. So why is this latest release The Ultimate Collection? Quite simply, this is the first CD, at least the first official release sanctioned by the band, that includes all of the band's singles and other outstanding tracks. DON HENLEY - The End Of The Innocence (1989)

Donald "Don" Henley is an American rock musician who is the drummer and one of the lead singers and songwriters of the band Eagles. This 1989 release captures Don Henley at his best, and boasts well-crafted songs elevated by stunning poetic images and reflective narratives. In fact, few pop artists know how to illuminate the human condition with quite the same amount of insight and ethos as Henley. JOHN HAMMOND - Source Point (1971)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us 320

With a career that now spans in excess of three decades, John Hammond is one of handful of White blues musicians who was on the scene at the beginning of the first blues renaissance of the mid-'60s. That revival, brought on by renewed interest in folk music around the U.S., brought about career boosts for many of the great classic blues players, including Mississippi John Hurt, Rev. Gary Davis and Skip James. Some critics have described Hammond as a White Robert Johnson, and Hammond does justice to classic blues by combining powerful guitar and harmonica playing with expressive vocals and a dignified stage presence.

He was a leader in the emerging blues-rock movement, and his bands were an early proving ground for a number of future stars--Eric Clapton and Jack Bruce of Cream, Mick Taylor of the Rolling Stones, and Peter Green, John McVie, and Mick Fleetwood of Fleetwood Mac.

ERIC CLAPTON - The Lost Israel Tapes (1979)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us 320

According to Mark Roberty's book, "The Complete Chronicle", there was only one show in Jerusalem on October 27. There exists a tape claimed to be recorded on October 29 in Jerusalem. During this tour Eric used to play (at least) two concerts in several cities, so it's not unlikely that he performed two shows in Jerusalem, too. The happening of this October 29 concert is solely based upon the audience recording which, of course, may be originated from the October 27 show, being labeled incorrectly.

GEORGE HARRISON - The Best Of (1976)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us 320

The Best of George Harrison is the first compilation album of George Harrison's music and was released in 1976. The Best of George Harrison was compiled without Harrison's input, and as such drew criticism from Harrison (as well as critics and fans) over the inclusion of his Beatles-era songs which take up half of the album's length, diminishing the significance of his solo years. Harrison had actually offered EMI a tracklisting and album title for the release, but these were ignored...

JOHN MAYALL & THE BLUESBREAKERS -
The Turning Point Soundtrack (2004)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us 320

The music on this two-CD collection reflects the soundtrack to the first ever "rockumentary," made by British filmmakers Pete Gibson and Alex Hooper about John Mayall's complete about-face in 1969, on the tour that showed him transitioning from his grand electric blues bands that featured superstar guitarists like Eric Clapton, Peter Green, and Mick Taylor -- as well as bassist John McVie -- to a band of then-relative unknowns who played the blues (largely) acoustically, while exploring extended improvisation like a chamber jazz group. The band, with Jon Mark on acoustic guitars, Mayall on harmonica, vocals, and acoustic guitar, Johnny Almond on flute and saxophones, electric bassist Steve Thompson, and no drummer, turned the entire notion of blues-based rock on its head. While the recording side of this was documented on the album The Turning Point, the soundtrack offers a version of how the music worked in live settings.

V.A. - Paint It Blue:The Songs Of The Rolling Stones (1997)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us 320
Incl. front & back cover (900x900)

The artists in this compilation bring these songs back home to the blues tradition, and create something new and beautiful in the process. (You'll also hear the close kinship between blues and country, a kinship that is often overlooked in the artificial division between modern blues, country, and rock and roll.) It's an example of what's so wonderful about the musical process as a whole--the organic melding of traditions and innovations to create beauty in sonic form. This album is a lesson in music history, but it's also just some damn good music. Get it, listen, learn, and love!

This record is dedicated to the memory of Luther Allison and Johnny Copeland.

01. You Can't Always Get What You Want - Luther Allison
02. Tumblin' Dice - Johnny Copeland
03. Wild Horses - Otis Clay
04. Honky Tonk Woman - James Cotton

KEITH RICHARDS - Talk Is Cheap (1988)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us 320
Incl. front & back cover (900x900)

It made sense that Keith Richards's first solo album offered better Chuck Berry-derived rockers than Mick "Keep Up with the Times" Jagger's, but who knew that Richards would give up more of the funk, too? His X-Pensive Winos (with estimable drummer Steve Jordan filling the Charlie Watts role) lay it down in a tight-but-loose fashion, and it doesn't hurt that Bootsy Collins and Bernie Worrell drop by, either. The best surprise of all, though, is the rueful, Cajun-tinged ballad "Locked Away."

01. Big Enough
02. Take It So Hard
03. Strle
04. I Could Have Stood You Up
05. Make No Mistake
06. You Don't Move Me
07. How I Wish
08. Rockawhile
09. Whip It Up
10. Locked Away
11. It Means A Lot

JOHN HIATT - Bring The Family (1987)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us 320
Incl. front & back cover (900x900)

Even John Hiatt's most ardent fans weren't ready for this masterpiece to be dropped in their laps in 1987. Hiatt had spent most of the 70's and 80's playing pick-a-style, bouncing from southern country rock to Elvis Costello redux and back again. With Family, though, he pared away every bit of excess and delivered his best set of songs with the understated, impossibly tasteful backing of Nick Lowe on bass, Ry Cooder on guitar and Jim Keltner on drums. Hiatt's sober, uncompromising examination of his previously drunken life was breathtaking; producing instant classics in "Have a Little Faith in Me" and "Thing Called Love." Family remains a landmark of adult album rock.

01. Memphis in the Meantime
02. Alone in the Dark
03. Thing Called Love
04. Lipstick Sunset
05. Have a Little Faith in Me
06. Thank You Girl
07. Tip Of My Tongue
08. Your Dad Did
09. Stood Up
10. Learning How To Love You

JOHN FOGERTY - The Blue Ridge Rangers (1973)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us 256
Incl. front & back cover (900x900)

With wonderfully chosen songs like "Hearts of Stone" and George Jones' classic country weeper "She Thinks I Still Care," John Fogerty's solo debut with The Blue Ridge Rangers has held up well over the last two decades. It isn't the most supple or technically proficient one-man recording of all time, but it's a wonderfully engaging record; upbeat, unpretentious, and loaded with good songs. Fogerty's rigid, no-frills drumming took a lot of heat for being mechanical, but no one has ever explained how Fogerty's abilities on the trap kit are significantly different from Creedence's Doug Clifford. In retrospect, this was a tremendously risky record to make; country music in the early '70s was regarded as the domain of right-wing, rock & roll-hating Nashville traditionalists, and it was reasonable to assume that fans (even staunch ones) wouldn't take kindly to this genre switch. While it wasn't a huge success, it was in no way a disaster, and perhaps more importantly, served as a much-needed rock & roll history lesson.

01. Blue Ridge Mountain Blues
02. Somewhere Listening (For My Name)
03. You're The Reason
04. Jambalaya (On The Bayou)
05. She Thinks I Still Care
06. California Blues (Blue Yodel #4)
07. Workin' On A Building
08. Please Help Me, I'm Falling
09. Have Thine Own Way, Lord
10. I Ain't Never
11. Hearts Of Stone
12. Today I Started Loving You Again

LEVON HELM - Dirt Farmer (2007)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us VBR

Levon Helm is an American rock musician most famous as the drummer for the rock group The Band. Helm is also known for his deeply soulful, country-style voice, and powerful drumming style highlighted on many of the The Band's recordings. Levon Helm's early solo albums, made in the 1970s after the Band initially broke up, were hit-and-miss affairs, but his first solo studio release in 25 years represents a rich return to his Southern roots.

Growing up on a cotton farm in the Arkansas Delta, Levon Helm's new album rings true to home. This is an all-acoustic offering from one of the greatest voices in rock history. The album was recorded at Levon's Woodstock, NY studio with Amy Helm and famed multi-instrumentalist / producer Larry Campbell.
