JOE BONAMASSA - You & Me (2006)

A powerful fusion of the "big rock sound" and swampy blues, You & Me gets much of its inspiration from such masters as Peter Green, Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton and John Lee Hooker. Bonamassa delivers all the excitement and power of his electrifying live performances while mixing it up with dynamic music choices; from hard to soft, electric to acoustic, a music roller coaster seldom achieved by recording artists today.

MICHAEL KATON - MK (2006)
VBR
"MK" features 10 hard and heavy blues rock songs in vintage Katon style. His sound is raw, mean and spirited, combining lowdown blues and boogie with the amped-up approach of the highest energy rock 'n' roll band you'd care to name. So beware of the boogieman from Hell, Michigan or you'll end up Boogified! "MK" opens with the heavy hitting "Back to Your Cages" and this song sets the tone of the album. It's a heavy train ride from the first to the last track. From the more traditional blues track "Need it awful bad" to the ever so hard "Diablo boogie" and "Motorcycle Blues". The album is filled with "soon to be" Katon classics.

ZORA YOUNG - Tore Up From The Floor Up (2005)
VBR ![]()
Despite the prominent presence of celebrated blues artist Howlin' Wolf in her family tree, singer Zora Young grew up singing not blues, but gospel. Even when the Mississippi native shook off her roots at the age of seven to relocate with family to Chicago, she attended the Greater Harvest Baptist Church and continued to sing gospel. It wasn't until later that she switched over to R&B, and evolved into a powerhouse blues vocalist with three decades of experience behind her. She has performed with a long list of artists, including Junior Wells, Jimmy Dawkins, Bobby Rush, Buddy Guy, Professor Eddie Lusk, Albert King, and B.B. King. Her recording credits include collaborations with Willie Dixon, Sunnyland Slim, Mississippi Heat, Paul deLay, and Maurice John Vaughn, among others. Her own recordings as a solo artist include releases from the labels Deluge, Black Lightning, and Delmark. Young has also performed on television and on-stage. She is a veteran of more than 30 tours of Europe, and she has been a featured performer many times at the Chicago Blues Festival. She has performed throughout North America, and on stages in Italy, Germany, Belgium, Sweden, France, Switzerland, and Greece, as well as Austria, Tai Pei, and Turkey.

YUSUF ISLAM (Cat Stevens) - An Other Cup (2006)
VBR
Three decades after decisively trading fame and his superstar moniker for the spiritual devotion for which his restless '70s songs seemed a perpetual quest, the singer-songwriter born Steven Demetre Georgiou has successfully resurrected Cat Stevens's muse, if not his persona. The musician whose dedicated embrace of Islam embroiled him in controversy frequently sings its praises on An Other Cup, both boldly (the Prophet-lionizing "The Beloved") and with delicate reflection ("Whispers from a Spiritual Garden" reworks Sufi mystic Jalaluddin Rumi.) Given the political and religious misconceptions that have often plagued him, he's mused for years that his theme song should be Nina Simone's "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood"; here Yusuf makes good on the promise, conjuring a cover steeped in brooding elegance with the assistance of Madonna/Dido/Rod Stewart producer Rick Nowells. Yusuf's (formerly Cat Stevens) first album of modern pop songs since 1978's Back to Earth. On his return to music, Yusuf says "I feel right about making music and singing about life in this fragile world again. It is important for me to help bridge the cultural gaps others are sometimes frightened to cross."

CAROLE KING - The Living Room Tour (2005)
192
Personnel:
Carole King (vocals, guitar, piano);
Gary Burr, Rudy Guess (vocals, guitar, bass instrument);
Louise Goffin, Sherry Goffin Kondor (vocals).
Recording information: Auditorium Theatre, Chicago, Illinois (2005); Greek Theatre, Los Angeles, California; Cape Cod Melody Tent, Hyannis, Massachusetts.
Although Carole King's THE LIVING ROOM TOUR was actually recorded in small theaters in Chicago, Los Angeles, and Cape Cod, the famed singer/songwriter is such an engaging, endearing performer that this two-disc set has the up-close, personal intimay of a concert performed in one's living room. Accompanying herself on acoustic guitar and piano, with only occasional electric guitar and bass behind her, King is in fine voice throughout. The program includes a charming pair of new songs, the introductory "Welcome To My Living Room" and the tender "Loving You Forever," as well as a fine selection of solo hits and a few nets from King's days as a Brill Building songwriter. The highlights of those are "Take Good Care of My Baby," with its amusingly discursive medley, and "It Might As Well Rain Until September," although the best moment on the album is King's duet with daughter Louise Goffin on "Where You Lead I Will Follow," famed as the theme for TV's GILMORE GIRLS.

THE QUARRYMEN - At Home
64
Pre-Beatles, live 1958-1962, Liverepool, Hamburg
The two unofficially released collections attributed to the Quarrymen, "Liverpool 1960" and "The Quarrymen At Home", are, with the exception of the legendary shellac demo of "That'll Be The Day" b/w "In Spite Of All The Danger", the earliest extant recordings of the Pre-Beatles, and as such, they offer a rare glimpse into the repertoire and the musical capabilities of the group in its formative years.
These recordings are not for the faint of heart in the high fidelity department. The sound is generally grainy, too closeup, with a tad too much reverb, and occasional dropouts. Many of the tracks fade-in and it's impossible to know (without another source) if this was done during the original recording or the mastering of these collections. It's obvious that these recordings were made under amateur conditions, with primitive "home" equipment, and that the master tapes have not have been especially well taken care of over the years.

JIMI HENDRIX WITH CURTIS KNIGHT & THE SQUIRES - Knock Yourself Out (1965)
320
By September 1965, Jimi had completed stints as guitar-for-hire with the Isley Brothers, Little Richard and others. His next was with Curtis Knight, who gave the broke guitarist a guitar as a welcome incentive to play in his band, The Squires. Jimi remained with Curtis's band for nine months, until just before Chas Chandler discovered him. Contained on this album are the two studio sessions that took place in October and December 1965. They spawned two singles, included here as the first four tracks. The band's fare of mid-sixties r&b, in a style with Stax and 60's pop leanings, has Jimi's guitar very much to the fore. Curtis valued Jimi greatly; when he played live, he gave over much of the set to his prodigious new guitarist. In between Curtis numbers and 60's pop covers, showman Jimi would come forward and perform the blues (as heard on previous Jungle release 'Drivin' South'). Jimi and Curtis signed a recording contract with Ed Chalpin, who made these recordings. This is the first time these 1965 studio tracks have been put together - previous exploitative releases have mixed them up with later recordings including many tracks where Jimi only played bass, gaining nothing but a poor reputation. This album redresses the balance, giving a fascinating and intriguing insight into the early Jimi Hendrix at work just months before his discovery.

JOHN LAWTON & STEVE DUNNING - Steppin' It Up (2002)
192
Uriah Heep's singer for three late-70s studio albums, John Lawton has put behind him a short-lived collaboration with Ken Hensley; for 'Steppin' It Up', the Geordie frontman has turned to Steve Dunning, a bassist/ guitarist whose talent currently dwarfs his reputation. Comprised mainly of leisurely, acoustic-based interpretations of key songs from Lawton's history, the dozen tunes here are the ideal soundtrack for a late-summer Sunday afternoon. Towering above them all is a medley of 'Firefly'/'Come Back To Me', the latter written by Heep drummer Lee Kerslake during a painful divorce, but which will forever be associated with Lawton's gravelly vocals. 'Feelings', a Hensley penned track recorded by Heep with his successor John Sloman, might seem an odd choice, but it sounds marvellous here. Elsewhere, more recent offerings like 'Payin' My Dues To The Blues' showcase Lawton's rootsier side, while 'Wise Man' (from 'Firefly' reminds us of his proficiency as a balladeer. 'Fallen Angel' track, 'One More Night (Last Farewell)' concludes things in boogie-woogie fashion, also incorporating a piano contribution from current Heep keyboardist Phil Lanzon.

THE BEATLES - Love (2006) NEW!!!
VBR
From the label: Love is a fascinating reworking of numerous classic Beatles recordings by the band's original producer, Sir George Martin, and his son Giles. Love is also the title of the highly successful Cirque du Soleil show, a co-production with Apple Corps featuring the music of the Beatles, currently wowing audiences in Las Vegas. In creating the music for the show and for the album, George and Giles have created a continuous "soundscape" - a series of well-known Beatles songs augmented by additional instrumentation and vocals taken from their vast bank of original multi-track tapes. If you can imagine "Strawberry Fields Forever" beginning with John's original demo before going into an early take of the song and then climaxing in a musical collage including the piano solo from "In My Life" and the harpsichord pattern from "Piggies" and lots, lots more--or "Get Back" prefaced by the "Hard Day's Night" opening guitar chord, the guitar and drum solos from "The End," and segued into "Glass Onion," you will begin to get the picture. But hearing is believing! The guys have pushed back the boundaries and come up with a brand-new work that will add to the enduring legacy of the band. The result is an amazing album that not only reinforces the timeless quality of the group's recordings--the fans will have fun enjoying the roller-coaster experience of the album whilst trying to spot where all the pieces come from--it is also destined to open up a new legion of fans to the Beatles experience.

BOB MARLEY - No Symphaty (2006)
VBR
The tracks Bob Marley and the Wailers cut with legendary reggae producer Lee Perry in Jamaica in the late 1960s and early '70s are sadly less well-known than the group's later discography. However, Marley fans have cause for celebration, as this set packs 16 of the reggae legend's early songs into one convenient package. This music offers such a unique stylistic blend of reggae's rock-steady rhythm and slinkier R&B elements that it still sounds fresh some 30 years after its creation. Marley's songwriting is as strong as ever, while on "Soul Rebel," "Try Me," and "My Cup," his textured, soulful voice infuses the songs with characteristic passion, delivering hook-filled melodic lines over irresistibly groovy beats.

Them was a Northern Irish band formed in Belfast in 1963, best known for the garage rock standard "Gloria" and launching singer Van Morrison's career. The band featured Van Morrison on vocals and harmonica, Billy Harrison on guitar, Eric Wrixen on piano and keyboards (named the band, but never played on any published albums or toured the States), Alan Henderson on bass, and Ronnie Millings on drums, with other musicians replacing or contributing during the life of the band. MIKE OLDFIELD - Tubular Bells (1973)
320
Mike Oldfield's groundbreaking album Tubular Bells is arguably the finest conglomeration of off-centered instruments concerted together to form a single unique piece. A variety of instruments are combined to create an excitable multitude of rhythms, tones, pitches, and harmonies that all fuse neatly into each other, resulting in an astounding plethora of music. Oldfield plays all the instruments himself, including such oddities as the Farfisa organ, the Lowrey organ, and the flageolet. The familiar eerie opening, made famous by its use in The Exorcist, starts the album off slowly, as each instrument acoustically wriggles its way into the current noise that is heard, until there is a grand unison of eccentric sounds that wildly excites the ears. Throughout the album, the tempos range from soft to intense to utterly surprising, making for some excellent musical culminations. Mandolins and Spanish guitars are joined by grinding organs and keyboards, while oddball bells and cranking noises resound in the distance. In the middle of the album, guest Vivian Stanshall announces each instrument seconds before it is heard, ending with the ominous sounding tubular bells, a truly powerful and dominating instrument. The most interesting and overwhelming aspect of this album is the fact that so many sounds are conjured up yet none go unnoticed, allowing the listener a gradual submergence into each unique portion of the music. Tubular Bells is a divine excursion into the realm of new age music. ~ Mike DeGagne, All Music Guide

JOHN FOGERTY - The Long Road Home: In Concert (2006)
VBR
Wiltern Theatre, Los Angeles, California (2006)
A solid argument could be made that THE LONG ROAD HOME is John Fogerty's definitive post-Creedence statement. The majority of the songs on this double-disc live set are in fact songs written while Fogerty was in CCR, but his finest solo work doesn't get short shrift either, as he runs through later-period songs such as "Blue Moon Nights" and "Rambunctious Boy" from 2004's BLUE MOON SWAMP and the hits "The Old Man Down the Road" and "Centerfield." The exuberance and fire that Fogerty puts into these songs, however, blurs the line between past and present, bandleader and solo artist, and shows a brilliant rock-and-roller at his most smokin'. Keep on chooglin' indeed.

OASIS - Stop The Clocks (2006)
320
If a band's Greatest Hits is their dispatch to the ages, Stop The Clocks - a two CD collection that spans the ins and outs of their career from debut single "Supersonic" to 2005's sixth studio album Don't Believe The Truth - sests that whether you believe they lost their way in a blizzard of cocaine around the time of 1997's Be Here Now or put their first foot wrong the day Liam first put crayon to paper as lyricist -- at their best they're quite simply at the top of their game. First up, a run-through the early stuff: band manifesto "Rock'n'Roll Star', their first chart-topper "Some Might Say", and its B-side, the acoustic, Noel-sung "Talk Tonight". In such context, later efforts like "Lyla" and "Go Let It Out" lack the obvious hunger of what came before, but they demonstrate exactly why Oasis got as huge as they did: their affinity for the stomping, Slade - derived swagger and runway-width choruses just perfect for filling stadiums and football fields. Fans who shelled out for Oasis' B-sides compilation The Masterplan might feel med by the decision to reprise four tracks here, but a genuine Oasis Best Of wouldn’t seriously work without the presence of "Acquiesce". Live forever? These songs just might. - Louis Pattison

KEITH URBAN - Love, Pain & The Whole Crazy Thing (2006)
192
It's tempting to read these songs--many about hope in the face of potential heartbreak--as an adjunct to Keith Urban's own tabloid-fodder life, which lately reads "ex-junkie country star marries Nicole Kidman, enters rehab." But his three previous albums have similar dark undertones. That would also be an underestimation of Urban's creative powers, which are broad enough to balance assembly-line Nashville pop with emotionally fine - tuned artistry. Breezy rockers like "Faster Car," sweet hooky ballads like "Shine," and readymade big-chorus hits like "Once in a Lifetime" rub elbows with more complex numbers like "I Can't Stop Loving You"--an essay about sad courage that starts with an acoustic guitar and adds instrumental textures as it unfolds--and "Stupid Boy," a tale of loss and self-discovery. It's no coincidence that both those songs climax with Urban's own crying guitar solos. As a player, his bold, midrange-heavy tone complements his most nuanced vocal performances. Another highlight is "Raise the Barn," which Urban co-wrote and sings with Ronnie Dunn. The cheerful tune, inspired by the survivors of Hurricane Katrina, is a tribute to the durability of the human spirit--a subject Urban seems to know more than a little about. --Ted Drozdowski, Amazon

THE JEFF HEALEY BAND - Platinum & Gold Collection (2004)
192
Canada's Jeff Healey enjoyed success in the early 1990s with a pair of flamethrowing covers of John Hiatt songs, "Angel Eyes" and"Confidence Man," both of which are included on this collection of tracks drawn from his four Arista albums. The blind guitarist's unorthodox laptop playing style, coupled with a solid rhythm section of Tom Stephen on drums and Joe Rockman on bass, gave the songs a bluesy, hardrocking and slightly edgy feel, a template the trio never abandoned, and which gives this compilation a comfortable feeling of cohesion. A cover of George Harrison's "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" works well here, as does a gospeltinged take on Jimi Hendrix's "Angel." But the most affecting track may well be the album's closer, a looselimbed, barroom romp through Big Joe Williams' "Highway 49," which just plain rocks, pure and simple.

LITTLE FEAT - Dixie Chicken (1973)
VBR
DIXIE CHICKEN is the first album by the most enduring Little Feat line-up: Kenny Gradney replaced departed bassist Roy Estrada, and New Orleans musicians Sam Clayton and Paul Barrere rounded out the new group. This line-up went through periodic break-ups and reunions until the death of Lowell George in 1979. The great Neon Parks album paintings were anticipated almost as much as the next collection from Little Feat, the band with which his work became inextricably linked. This album found them at a musical peak as a stellar 70s rock band who had oodles of swamp blues and funk, with a loose shambling style that spoke of confidence rather than sloppiness. Lowell George was singing better than ever on this collection, notably with the sublime "Roll Um Easy," where his voice was chillingly expressive. Bill Payne and Richie Haywood play their respective keyboard and drums with calm and precision. There are no weak tracks here, and this is another vital album, in keeping with all recordings that featured George.

APHRODITE'S CHILD - Best Of (1980)
192
A Greek band of the late '60s and early '70s, Aphrodite's Child scored only one European hit, "Rain and Tears." Though it was a big one, the group became little more than a trivia answer after keyboardist Vangelis Papathanassiou dropped his surname and hit number one with the theme to Chariots of Fire in 1981. Aphrodite's Child also included drummer Lucas Sideras and vocalist Demis Roussos, who enjoyed some solo success himself as a pop vocalist. The band formed in Greece in the mid-'60s, and the title track from the second album was a hit throughout Europe. The 1972 album 666 -- The Apocalypse of Saint John, was generally agreed to be the best, but it proved to be the last, though the single "Break" was also a hit in Europe.

PETER GABRIEL - Shaking the Tree - 16 Golden Greats (1990)

Peter Gabriel has never been one to stand on tradition. The former Genesis singer bends and hammers fashionable pop forms to his liking (a la his massive MTV-fueled hit "Sledgehammer") or uses the obligatory soundtrack assignment to explore the world music that has been his obsession for decades (as in "Zaar" from Passion). This 16-track anthology explores the width--and, crucially, depth--of Gabriel's rich post-Genesis music, from the post-prog obliquities of "Solsbury Hill" and "Here Comes the Flood" to the African musical and political concerns of the title track (available only on this collection) and the epic "Biko." But what makes the compilation even more compelling is the way it eschews the chronology of its decade-plus body of music, instead weaving and segueing Gabriel's music into a tapestry of compelling mood and color. It's a rewarding listening experience for fan and novice alike.

ETTA JAMES - Mystery Lady: Songs Of Billie Holiday (1994)
192
The real mystery is why it took so long for Etta James to win a Grammy. But this great American vocalist claimed her first statue by paying tribute to another grand singer. James's versions of Billie Holiday-identified tunes like "Don't Explain," "You've Changed," "Lover Man," and "The Man I Love" are the best readings of Lady Day's signatures in a generation. Pianist Cedar Walton leads the seven-piece band in spare and graceful arrangements faithful to the mainstream jazz sound of the '40s and '50s, which gives James ample room to exercise her soaring range and deliver a dazzling, seductive, and warm tour de force.

ETTA JAMES - Rocks the House (1964)
192
ROCKS THE HOUSE is the only live recording from Etta James' Chess recording career (late 1950s to mid 1960s). This album rivals B.B. King Live At The Regal for best live blues album ever. Etta James sings so tough, so ballsy, I cannot think of another singer to compare her to. She almost makes even Wilson Pickett and James Brown sound like wimps. On a couple of songs, she does some scatting you have to hear to believe. Besides the incredible singing, the other thing that makes this album a joy is the audience. Their excitement is palpable. On a couple of songs, Etta gets a thrilling call and response going with them, and their energy seems to feed her. The album is the next best thing to Etta James in person.

UFO - Monkey Puzzle (2006)
VBR
The (almost) classic lineup of UFO returns once again to deliver a new album, a new tour, and another lease on life. If you’ve followed UFO over the years, more like decades, then you know all too well the revolving door of band members, the internal strife, and the chaos that often times plagues this great band. It’s a wonder how they actually manage to release new material! And good material at that! Drummer Jason Bonham has left the band for the gig with Foreigner but long time skinsman, Andy Parker, returns to the kit and almost completes the classic UFO lineup of Mogg/Way/Parker/ Raymond/ Michael Schenker. Of course Schenker has been out for a number of years (again), but guitar god Vinnie Moore continues to occupy the chair that Schenker vacated before 2004’s YOU ARE HERE. Get all that? Are we clear on who’s who? Who’s in, who’s out? That’s always the story with UFO. On to the music...

WILLIE NELSON - Songbird (2006)

The new album from the legendary Willie Nelson "Songbird" was produced by Ryan Adams and recorded with Adams and The Cardinals on all 11 tracks, along with Nelson’s longtime harmonica master Mickey Raphael. Songbird includes a diverse range of covers, including Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah”, Gram Parsons’ “$1000 Wedding”, Jerry Garcia & Robert Hunter’s “Stella Blue” and the gorgeous title track written by Christine McVie, which originally appeared on Fleetwood Mac’s landmark album Rumours. Nelson and Adams each penned a new song specifically for Songbird. Nelson’s acoustic “Back To Earth” could have easily appeared on one of his timeless albums, while Adams’ country blues gem “Blue Hotel”, written for Nelson, features The Red Headed Stranger’s signature stylings. New renditions of some Nelson classics also appear on Songbird including “Sad Songs and Waltzes” (from Shotgun Willie) and “We Don’t Run” (from Spirit).

CREAM - Live Cream Vol 1 (1970)
320
'Live Cream' was released in June of 1970, more than two years after most of the tracks were recorded at the Fillmore West and Winterland sites in San Francisco, and 3 years after 'Lawdy Mama', the predecessor to 'Strange Brew', was laid down at Atlantic Studio's. All of the live tracks are extended versions of songs found on the band's first studio release, 'Fresh Cream'. There is a 'Live Cream - Volume Two' (released in March of 1972) disc also available, and those tracks are drawn from Cream's second and third studio releases, 'Disraeli Gears' and 'Wheels of Fire', so it appears some forethought and planning went into these live documents. Together with live tracks from 'Wheels of Fire' and 'Goodbye', there is as much live material available from the band as there is studio work.

JOHN FOGERTY - Eye Of The Zombie (1986)
256
Although this album has been considered the nadir of John Fogerty's career and the bottom of the barrel in his catalog, I can't help but say I love it! I'm sure the failure of the album had to do with some of the songs which made the album's title look confusing, especially "Soda Pop", which is the only track he stumbled on. The album also went into a darker direction, opposite from the prodecessor "Centerfield". Regardless, I still consider it to be an outstanding work from Fogerty. He did some of his most stunning guitar playing on "Change In The Weather" most definately, and who could argue about that! I consider this album just as magnificent as anything else he's ever done, even during his C.C.R. days. However, the only other aspect of this album is that it's only for John Fogerty's most dedicated audience and for completists.

LOU REED - Coney Island Baby (30th Anniversary Deluxe Edition)
mp3/VBR
From 1972's Transformer onward, Lou Reed spent most of the '70s playing the dry decadence card for all it was worth, with increasingly mixed results. But on 1976's Coney Island Baby, Reed's songwriting began to move into warmer, more compassionate territory, and the result was his most approachable album since Loaded. On most of the tracks, Reed stripped his band back down to guitar, bass, and drums, and the results were both leaner and a lot more comfortable than the leaden over-production of Sally Can't Dance or Berlin. "Crazy Feeling," "She's My Best Friend," and "Coney Island Baby" found Reed actually writing recognizable love songs for a change, and while Reed pursued his traditional interest in the underside of the hipster's life on "Charlie's Girl" and "Nobody's Business," he did so with a breezy, freewheeling air that was truly a relief after the lethargic tone of Sally Can't Dance. "Kicks" used an audio-tape collage to generate atmospheric tension that gave its tale of drugs and death a chilling quality that was far more effective than his usual blasé take on the subject, and "Coney Island Baby" was the polar opposite, a song about love and regret that was as sincere and heart-ting as anything the man has ever recorded. Coney Island Baby sounds casual on the surface, but emotionally it's as compelling as anything Lou Reed released in the 1970s, and proved he could write about real people with recognizable emotions as well as anyone in rock music -- something you might not have guessed from most of the solo albums that preceded it.

PINK FLOYD - The First 3 Singles (1967)
mp3/192
1967: The First Three Singles compiles exactly what it advertises. While four of the six songs can be found on the far more substantial (and indispensable) Relics compilation and The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, the EP does provide a service by making "Apples and Oranges" and "Candy and a Currant Bun" available to those who didn't purchase the Shine On box set. (The box contained a bonus disc entitled "The Early Singles," which essentially functions as a hybrid of this EP and Relics without including everything offered by both.) The big question is why this particular disc doesn't bother to include the fourth and fifth singles, released a year later. After all, it would have made for a more serviceable release, making "Point Me at the Sky" and "It Would Be So Nice" available to non-Shine On owners. Not only that, but after 1968 the band didn't release another single for an entire decade. Outside of the nit picking, "Apples and Oranges" and "Candy and a Currant Bun" are worth the budget price for those who love the Syd Barrett era of the band, just as loopy and melodic as anything on Piper. The chipper "Candy and a Currant Bun," the B-side to "Arnold Layne," was originally titled "Let's Roll Another One" until the BBC made it clear that they wouldn't play a song with that title. A song about dope smoking, the band opted to make the title relatively innocuous. "Apples and Oranges" was the third A-side (following the great success of "See Emily Play"), viewed accurately by the band to be a fine song marred by bad production. ~ Andy Kellman, All Music Guide

THE WHO - Endless Wire (2006)
VBR
Endless Wire is the title of a new studio album by The Who, and their first since It's Hard in 1982. The album was originally to be released in Spring 2005 under the working title WHO2. The release date has been pushed back to October 30, 2006, due to drummer Zak Starkey's commitments to work with Oasis on their album Don't Believe the Truth and on their 2005 tour. The only remaining original members of the band are Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey. Keith Moon died in 1978, and John Entwistle died in 2002. Kenney Jones, the Who's second drummer, hasn't played with the group since 1988. Entwistle's place is currently being filled by Pino Palladino. Zak Starkey and Peter Huntington play drums on the album. Starkey, the longest-term fill-in for Keith Moon, has played with The Who since 1996. Additionally Simon Townshend (Pete Townshend's brother) and Billy Nicholls are providing some backing vocals for the album, with John "Rabbit" Bundrick playing some of the keyboards.
